Chris Satchell, chief technology officer of Microsoft's interactive business stated that The Playstation Network has nothing but only a "handful of titles" to their credit, and that their creativity is running thin. However, when talking about the 360 he states that "very rapidly we will see a huge amount of creativity pouring onto Xbox 360 and Xbox Live."

"With Xbox LIVE Community Games set for release by the end of the year Microsoft will hopefully be delivering on that promise of "a huge amount of creativity pouring onto Xbox 360 and Xbox Live". The company has gone so far as to say, "community-created games on Xbox LIVE are expected to double the size of the Xbox 360 video game library”. If that is the case, there must surely be at least a reasonable number of innovative games in the mix."

What's he talking about? PSN has trophies and it's getting Home soon. Live is only better because it has more content, with other things they are both the same. I would rather have less content for free then more for a fee.

Regardless, the article's right, PS3 has few features above Live.

      Red 9 Jul 24, 08
Why? Because you say so? I see very few features Live has to hold above PSN.

        Slumpy monkey Jul 24, 08
Not so much more features, although it does have a few.
        Its just quality.

I think he was speaking more towards downloadable titles than toward features. The xbox does have a lot more titles, but as many people have said, almost every PSN game is a great, creative download. I haven't played any XBLA games, so I wouldn't know, but I've heard that few are actually worth downloading.

Yeah, PSN could do with more DL'able games.

    Koloth Jul 24, 08
Most of the XBLA games are really pretty worthless. Lots of old 80s arcade titles and bascally a bunch of junk. I wouldn't say the PSN is a any better really. But I think claiming more content is better is rather meaningless when 90% of the content isn't worth owning.

He even goes as far to say PSN has run out of creativity, and that the 360 is on the verge of a creative explosion. Does he really believe that? PSN, if anything, is just beginning to get its 'game' on.

Of course he has to say it, He works for Microsoft.

What do you excepct him to go "OH TEH PS3 IS BETAR THN THE SHITBOX 360,LOL RROD"

It was just a comment to slander the competition, all companies do it. Its not like its going to effect you anyway so I don't see why you are getting your feathers in a ruffle about it.

It's completely obvious why they are getting their feathers in a ruffle.

          Children and their consoles.

I would say 50%. What's great is that a good amount are either classics that we enjoyed when we were younger, or some that's a blast to play with friends. The integration of 'Live' in these old games is a major plus, imo. I can name about 25+ XBLA games worth owning.

But what do you expect someone from M$ to say? As slumpy monkey mentions, he works for the company, it's not like he's going to go against it. It's actually pretty funny to see all these Sony defenders, but save it for the analysts or something.

        Koloth Jul 28, 08
Koloth owns a 360. So yes I can tell myself whatever I want about my console. And I still say most of the XBLA games are crap. Most, not all. Some are actually really good.

          Deadman Rules Jul 29, 08
Worthless to you or worthless in general in what I was getting at.
        • 0
          Koloth Jul 30, 08
Worthless to me. But I wouldn't be overly surprised if plenty of people agreed with Storm there that 50% or more of the games available on XBLA are junk.

I will never make the quality over quantity argument though. Quantity does of course mean that statistically you should have more quality titles. But it also means you have to wade through all the muck to get to them.

I know what you mean, alot of them are garbage but there are still quite a few good/fun ones.

I wonder if by creativity he means the user created content from XNA Community because I am looking forward to that.

Yeah me too, The dishwasher was an amazing game, by whoever created it.

      Seproth Jul 26, 08
Finally someone caught that. The user created games that will be coming soon is going to be huge for LIVE. The ones I've seen are very interesting and creative.

As for the Sony dis...it's just thrown in there. They're always just taking small shots at each other. Just how Kaz said he'd be shot rather than take an exclusive title from Xbox. Of course he'd take Gears if he could. He just has to act as if Playstation is unstoppable. Same applies here.

        There's a character limit.
  • 0
    BlackLabel Jul 24, 08
To be honest neither are limited i mean from a technical standpoint PSN is very very open, much more open than XBL from a content standpoint its matched, XBL has more because its a year PSN's senior.

Both consoles have questionable content but if i was to go with the one with better content, they are even Sony has fewere but in my opinion better arcade/full retail games and Microsoft has the better added content cause most of it is exclusive to their platform.

Eh, just someone from Microsoft bashing the other company. I wonder if they purposely say these things hoping it'll reach the public, to hurt the competition. It does the opposite in my eyes. I hate when they attack each other. Just let your own actions lift the company up, no need to bash the other one down . . . unless your worried you need to in order to make your own company look better?

Sadly, they all do it at one point or another. Though the guy in charge of the PSN had my kudos because he admitted he liked many of the features of XBL and was working on their own way of doing those features for the PSN.

I like some of the very simple XBLA games like N+ and Alien hominid and so forth. The PSN doesn't have very simple games, but . . . either next-gen mini games, or older classics. They're not working to fill a quota though, so that's fine and good.

They probably say this stuff so they can see the fanboy's flaming everyone about it and laugh like a madman while saying "dance puppets dance"
    • 1
      Slumpy monkey Jul 25, 08
Lol yeah, This is probably how they get their kicks. Normaly when people are bored they are like "Letz do some crank calls guize"

But at MS and Sony there like "Lets insult the competition in public and then watch all teh fanboyz fight it out on the net"

In fact I bet their sitting there now eating a pizza and watching us all laughing hardcore.

        HisServant77 Jul 25, 08
Haha I can definitely see that now. All gathered around with their mouths stuffed, pointing and laughing at the screen before saying, "Let's see what these guys over here are saying" a pause, a click, a burst of laughter . . . some choking, more laughter . . .

Hope's got nothing to do with it. PS3's Fall Quarter is just booming with awesomeness.

What Microsoft doesn't want you to think of is that Live is only more widely used right now because of lower PS3 sales outside of Japan. As far as value for the money, PSN has Live beat hands down. Free online play vs. $50 a year? I think I'll take the free.

The amount and type of content don't really matter much; more people will likely be using PSN and Live for online gaming than shopping. If Sony will get itself straightened out and secure some more great exclusive titles that are sure to sell consoles and that have online capabilities, Microsoft will be retracting this statement pretty quickly.

Secure more exclusive titles? I thought our upcoming lineup was more than enough...Picky people I guess.

Pretty sure Avalith was comparing PS2's exclusives to what the PS3 has exclusively now.

          Red 9 Jul 26, 08
The PS2 is the PS2. Even the 360's library can't compete with that. It's why the PS2 is still selling, and is outselling everyone except the Wii even now.

I couldn't really care what MS says about PSN, I enjoy and love using it.

Wish it had more Classics but overall please with it.

    Uhm... http://www.gamegrep.com/news/11948-ps3_owners_say_that_xbox_live_is_the_best/

Way to state the obvious, Microsoft. They make us pay for our service, so yeah, I would think we get more features. That's not to say PSN and LIVE can't be similar in what they offer, it's just who does a better job... and I should hope it's not the FREE service, because then Gold subscribers like myself will really be asking our money back.
