A study conducted by the University of Wisconsin shows that Wii Sports, the sports game published and developed by Nintendo, is helping adults burn calories for adults. Baseball, tennis, and bowling can burn up to 3.9 to 10.2 calories a minute. The highest calorie burner was boxing, burning 216 calories in 30 minutes and the lowest was golf, which burned only 117 calories. However, Cordero McCalure, a GameStop employee, said that no kids come looking for Wii games and Best Buy employees stated the same thing, although it is unclear whether or not the adults are buying the games for their kids.
Wii Sports, the popular sports simulation video game, may get you sweating, but it's still no substitute for the gym.
That's the conclusion of a study sponsored by The American Council on Exercise (ACE), which has just announced it's research findings.
Conducted exclusively by University of Wisconsin, La Crosse Exercise and Health Program, the study, released Tuesday, shows that playing the five Wii games golf, tennis, baseball, bowling and boxing will burn anywhere from 3.9 to 10.2 calories per minute.
