Half Life 2: Episode 3 is next up, but Half Life 3 is in the works.

NSX | July 24, 2008 | News | PC
For ten years Half Life has been one of the best series' to come out during that span, and there are two more games that are in the works to further expand on the series. While Half Life 3 is a couple years off, Half Life 2: Episode 3 is not far off.
You can’t say “ground-breaking first person shooter” without mentioning the Half-Life series in the same breath. Since its initial release on the PC in 1998, the series has garnered overwhelming critical acclaim as well as commercial success. Crowbar-wielding Gordon Freeman fanboys have been frothing for Valve’s next concoction – Half-Life 2: Episode 3 – for over a year. When E3 came and went with nary a whisper about the next installment, it stung like a headcrab bite. Good news is—Episode 3 is still in the works. The bad news: Half-Life 3 is a few years off.

HL3?! There is a god, heh. I wonder if that will be better than HL1. They can take their time with the next installment, just make it as epic as 1, if not more.

Don't expect Half Life 3 to come out likely until the next generation of consoles and when a completely new Valve engine is released. But until there, we should be seeing more episodes and mods based on Half Life 2 and the Source engine which is pretty exciting.

As long as there's still a gravity gun, I'm up for Half-Life 3.

That's my favorite weapon out of any videogame, ever.

They need to put the portal gun into a Half Life game. Seriously I could just imagine how unique the campaign experience would have been being able to use the portal gun to travel, transport and even use as a weapon.

Well, seeing as Aperture Science are mentioned at the end of HL2:E2 I'd be surprised if it didn't appear.
