Fallout 3 is nearing release and people on all three of the platforms it is scheduled to arrive on are naturally getting excited. But should PS3 gamers?

In a recent interview Bethesda’s Peter Hines said that while downloadable content will be coming to the 360 and PC, none will come to the PS3. Saying "We felt it was the right thing to do for Fallout 3"

This isn't the first time either, Bethesda pulled a similar stunt with the PS3 version of Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, were they refused to launch almost any of the downloadable content which was available for the 360, and when Shivering Isles actually did manage to squeeze onto the PS3, it was only in America unless you dished out for the GOTY edition.

DLC is going to be exclusive to the PC and 360, not just 360,” he said. “Every platform has its advantages and disadvantages when it comes to DLC, and I assure you we are intimately aware of every technical, business, and fan-service aspect when it comes to DLC and any given platform.

“We felt [PC and 360 exclusivity] was the right thing to do for Fallout 3.”

Fallout 3 ships on October 7 in the US, and we’re still waiting on a Euro date. No hint’s been given as to when we’re going to see the DLC as yet.

I am tired of exclusive content anyway, i like to think that the content should be on the disk anyway, i am not going to spend $6 for each download for something that should have been in the product to start with.

After the Horse Armour fiasco, do we really want it? But really, they've been having "techincal issues" for ages. If they really wanted to they could solve it. Although, it makes me wonder, what was Pete Hines on about? I'm sure on the Betheseda blog it says he would love to bring the Oblivion DLC to PS3, unless that just means GoTY? Well, i'll stop rambling, at least the game will be good. You 360 and PCers enjoy your dlc

The title actually should read "DOES Brthesda just not like the PS3".

    Sorry

Its actually bad that before release the word DLC is even mentioned, the time when they can still add this content to the game itself, they choose not to.

Before I read their response, I figured it was just another stupid assumption or speculation made out of nothing, since the 360 and PC versions are both Microsoft platforms. For them to say, “We felt [PC and 360 exclusivity] was the right thing to do for Fallout 3,” confuses me. I really don't know what that means and it sounds extremely one sided. They had to get paid for that, otherwise how would limiting your audience be the best thing to do for your game?

M$ actually did officially pay Bethesda to keep DLC on 360 and PC. It was in a GG.com article a while ago.

They could put it in the blu ray and have it as downloadable for the other systems. But then Microsoft would get all hot and puffy and fire people.

lol, that would be a huge middle finger to MS.

I remember the majority of downloadable content on Oblivion being a joke anyways, the user-created art was always better. I'm with Black Label, if the content is ready on the game release, put it on there.

I fail to see how, "We plan to have exclusive DLC for 360, and PC." translates to "We have shit done that we're going to charge for later."

They're plans people. They probably know what they want to do. It's far from done though. DLC won't be up on day one.

BTW, what was wrong with Oblivion DLC, outside horse armor. It was all reasonably priced. You don't want it? Don't download it, period. I spent 100+ hours in Oblivion before any DLC was on the marketplace. My first thought was not...OMG they *bleep*ed me over! This should have been here before" It was "Awesome, there's going to be more to do." Stop being so greedy. Bethesda is one company who doesn't need to cram more in their game.

Yeah, Oblivion DLC was some of the best DLC a game can get. Instead of just adding in a new colour scheme or something crappy, They always added something large into the mix and added a new quest full with weapons and armour.

The point I think we should be concerned about is that while the PS3 version is getting nada for DLC, the 360 and PC versions have exclusive DLC already, before it's even out.

It's GTAIV all over again. PS3 getting nothing while everyone else gets goodies. It doesn't matter if the DLC is any good. The fact that M$ paid for more exclusive DLC and that Bethesda thinks they're doing the best for Fallout 3 is the problem.

They may be doing what they think is best. Who knows? 360 is more like developing for PC then the PS3 is, which Bethesda has done for years, only recently have they moved to console. Maybe they can release more DLC faster if they stick to one platform. Who knows really? Eventually they may release a GOTY version of both as they did with Oblivion where PS3 owners can get what they missed out on.

No no no, VALVE does not like the PS3. Bethesda did a wonderful job with the PS3 version of Oblivion. Really can't fault them for not bringing out the other DLC's like the horse armor or the hideouts because they were probably already working on Fallout 3 but they did bring the big ones like Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine.

Why they won't bring DLC to the PS3 is beyond me though but they're making the EFFORT of bringing the game to the PS3 unlike SOME other developers.

No red, its called Sony once again *bleep*ing up and not paying to get the content.

Not like this matters. I don't even plan on getting the game, doesn't look appealing to me. So this is hardly a loss....for me anyway.

Funny how no where in that post did I even alluded to FF13, in fact I was Technically alluding to GTA4 DLC.

GG, but then again I should expect nothing less from people here.

You don't need to mention it. Ever since FF13's incident you haven't been happy with either Sony or the PS3. The negativity towards Sony is noticeable in your posts.

I was angry too, but Sony's got plenty of other good things going for them, so I just let it go.

Actually this is Microsoft causing the problems. The Elder Scrolls has only been for PC until the release of Morrowind where it was available for Xbox. Since then Microsoft have put pressure on Beth Soft to release their games several weeks or months before the deadline. Oblivion is the first game for Beth Soft to be on the PS3 (They have released other games for the PS2 however but of course they don't feature extra content).

The above can be backed up by Microsft's recent stunt with Bioshock, pulling out the exclusive content card, which has now backfired on them a year later and causing 2K Games to produce not just Bioshock for the PS3 but exclusive DLC and trophies.

Of course Sony hasn't helped the case either as I believe talks have been going on for awhile now about Elder Scrolls DLC for the PSN and only getting as far as Shivering Isles for North America

However it isn't a secret that Beth Soft have always valued their PC versions as it holds superiority over the console versions with its modding ability

Also Slumpy, no the official DLC is crud compared to gamer mods and what Beth Soft can really achieve. Mehrunes Razor, KoTN and SI are the best they have done, the rest are merely class based homes.

You truly want to see DLC in the works for Oblivion? Check Neoseeker's video section and search the net. The gamers have done far more adding than Beth Soft have done unfortunately, not knocking Beth Soft but even their Morrowind DLC which was free is better than their Oblivion DLC and there's far more Oblivion DLC than Morrowind (11 to 3 I believe the ratio is)

I never said the DLC was better than modded content. I was just saying bethesda do a good job with their official DLC.

I know you weren't comparing them, what I was saying was, they could do a heck of a better job.

Although I wouldn't want the arrangement to change, which is Beth Soft leaves many options and ideas open for gamers to mess with. They could initially help further by not leaving gamers to make major breakthroughs such as Dual Wielding, Spears, Horse Combat, Ridable Dragons and so on.

If they had most of that at the start or included that/replaced that with their current DLC's I think the console owners would be very happy people.

        Lets weigh it up

        Horse Armour VS horse combat?

A home for warriors VS Dragons in game?

A quest for Mehrunes' Razor VS Dual wielding?

See what I am getting at? Beth Soft's DLC's are great but become a novelty over time. I would be the happiest guy on the planet if they made an "evil" version of Knights of the nine, however the way Beth Soft thought about it was simple...Dark Brotherhood already in game serves at the counter-part for KoTN, so lets fill in the gap for the "good" characters.

edit: and why exactly has someone given me minus two thumbs?

I agree, the DLC started out ok but over time became excessive and not worth the money. I would have killed to have an evil KOTN plug-in. (Who the *bleep* nega-thumbed you..?)
