Blu ray is rising faster than ever according to statistics, while sales still pale in comparison to the dominant DVD format sales are currently triple what they were last year and it is predicted Blu ray will outpace DVD well before 2012 which was the current prediction held by most analysts

In a beneficial turn of events for the home entertainment industry, Blu-ray sales continue to rise drastically despite the staggering U.S. economy.

As DVD sales decline, Blu-ray has been filling in the gap, generating more than $200 million in the first half of 2008. This is in stark contrast to the same point last year, where Blu-ray earnings were less than 33% of current figures.

“We are trending 8% Blu-ray sales [per title], and at the end of the year, we will be between 10% and 12%," stated Mike Dunn of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

As soon as I read the article title I thought to myself "this is probably from some stupid Amazon statistic". Then I read the article and it mentions absolutely nothing about the 300%, where they got the information from, etc. Hey, I can make stuff up too you know! Source or it didn't happen.

It's based on the Comic Con preview day results from Paramount as the poured boxes of Blu Ray titles onto the crowd to get them to stop asking for Star Trek posters.

That is good news. In a few more years Blu-ray will be like DVD is now and DVD will be like videos are now.
