NA Wii Shop Channel Update: 07/28/08: Tossing Some Balls with a Police Officer and Geese Howard

Akira_EX | July 28, 2008 | News | Wii
A controversial game hits the Wii Shop Channel's virtual shelves this week, flanked by two popular quality games. Sure, it isn't SBCG4AP like people were expecting, but there are some retro gems to be had.

The WiiWare game this week is the much maligned Pong Toss--Frat Party Games, developed by JV Games. It aims to bring the collegiate pasttime to the Wii, making use of the Wii Remote. It has received much controversy and criticism in the mainstream media, that prompted the name change. The game supports up to four players.

The first Virtual Console game this week is Chase H.Q. for the TurboGrafx16. Players will take the wheels of a police officer's car as they chase down and arrest fleeing criminals under a time limit. Wrong choices or poor driving will result in the criminal getting away. Many have noted the game's similiarities to Sega's Outrun series.

The other Virtual Console game is SNK's Art of Fighting 2 for its Neo Geo console. Regarded as having one of the toughest A.I. in a fighting game, Art of Fighting 2 features the Rage Gauge, a modified Spirit System from the original Art of Fighting that limited the use and effectiveness of special attacks.

Recap:
WiiWare:
  • Pong Toss, JV Games, 1-4 Players, 800 Points
    Virtual Console:
  • TG16: Chase H.Q., 1 Player, 600 Points
  • NEOGEO: ART OF FIGHTING 2, 1-2 Players, 900 Points

As always, games go live at Noon EST, 9AM PST. Keep track of the latest VC releases with the 2008 edition of What's New on VC? in the Wii Virtual Console forum.
