Microsoft Making a Bid For Take-Two?

capin131 | July 29, 2008 | News | XBOX 360 Company Misc
According to Seeking Alpha’s Stephen Frankola, Microsoft is indeed going to make a bid for Take-Two. Take-Two announced that there were “other suitors” besides EA, and Frankola argues at least one is the software giant.
Me? I highly doubt it. Last year, similar rumors swirled that Microsoft was bidding to buy Take-Two. However, Shane Kim swatted down the rumor, with a fairly obvious reason why the acquisition would never happen.

Sounds like Microsoft is trying to make everything Rockstar-related 360 exclusive.

Did you even read the article? It's just a rumor.

If they did buy T2 it would be a start to combat the EA empire.

I hope not. I mean at least they wouldn't be as bad a if EA took over but hell look what happened to the Halo series when Microsoft bought Bungie.

It got mass funding and publicity, and got Bungie on the map. It also made them shit loads of cash.

Not to mention Microsoft bought Bungie before Halo came out, they bought it off of Rockstar Games who were publishing the title at that point for the PC and PS2, with the buyout Microsoft got their first keystone franchise for the Xbox. Sure the game series may have gone downhill since but thats no fault of Microsoft really, if anything Halo was better than it probably would have been thanks to the money they pumped into development.

True. I mean sure Bungie got a lot from Microsoft as far as funding but I'm saying the games and the quality themselves suffered. At least in my opinion by corporate pressure. Halo took over a decade to make and perfect not a mere 3 years like the games after. I dunno that's just what I think.

But I really doubt it would happen second of all because Take-Two likes to have a free development environment and not just be locked to Microsoft's consoles. Unless they strike a deal as part of a merger that would allow Take-Two to syndicate to other consoles even as part of Microsoft.

If anything I hope they merge with a company like Ubisoft or Eidos.

Of course it took along time. They had no idea what to do.

First it was an RTS and had a different story, also they did not have the tools the have now, nor the same manpower. So obviously the sequels were going to be made quicker.

Everyone acts like MS is the only company who pressurise their subordinates, all parent companies do it.

I agree with you DBZ, although when they make a game like Halo, any hope for a sequel hits the hype machine. Then the expectations are set to an unbelievable level, and it will never live up to them.

If this rumor is true...well I don't know, we'll have to see.

Do you seriously think Halo took ten years to be developed? Wasn't it first going to be an RTS-type game, back in 98?

          It took three years, max.

it would be crap if microsoft buy out T2... now i would rather EA buy them out
it would suck for ps3 owners.... im not being a fanboy i just think it would be unfair.
id say the same thing if sony made a bid.

Well if there's anything that would come of good out of this is if Take Two rejects Microsoft and Microsoft also pursues to go hostile, that could stalemate the takeover attempt by EA from any party and Take Two would be free.
