Google AdSense in game?

Deathsythe | July 31, 2008 | News | PC Playstation 3 Company Misc
Google will begin testing its AdSense for Games, a new system to display advertisements in game in a similar fashion to their normal web-based AdSense. Targeted ads in my videogames? Seems like a great idea, but I don't know how well it will go over with gamers.
Google is the sleeping giant when it comes to advertising in video games. While the company dominates search advertising, it has yet to make a big splash in video games. That could change soon, as the company has been quietly testing its “AdSense for Games” product for months.

Sources close to the matter said that the company has developed an in-game advertising technology that allows it to insert video ads into games. In demos of the technology, a game character can introduce a video ad, saying something like, “And now, a word from our sponsor,” before showing a short video at the end of a sequence in a game. Since testing has been going on for some time, Google could launch the technology fairly quickly, if it so chooses.

...

Google’s technology can be applied to console games, disk-based PC games, web-based PC games and cell phone games.

No! I utterly HATE and LOATHE to an extreme google adsense ads!!! Aw man I truly, truly, TRULY hope they don't do this. If they do it, I'm not sure how they'll get it to work. They're seldom accurate in the cases I know and see. Then . . . they'd also better be very well implemented, which I doubt they'll be able to do well.

I'm alright with ads if they are well done in games, but in this case, ugh please no! Not to mention . . . I doubt they'll be well implemented!

If they do this I'll honestly play less games. The industry is getting ridiculous..
I understand higher costs and all that, but I'd rather play old games with no ads and silliness than new ones with ads any day, if it came down to it.
    I cry impurity, haha.

same here . . . it'll probably be one of those deciding factors when I look at if I'll get a game.

A video ad interrupting game play etc would be incredibly annoying and pointless, if anything people who use it will probably screwed over in the long run.

However if such technology was used to give ever changing billboard, posters etc in games that would be quite interesting.

Only way I'd be alright with advertisements like this in games, is if it makes the game cheaper, and isn't in the way too much. If they make a decent MMORPG or something, that is ad-supported (to make it free), I can live with that.....
