Wii 2 already in production

Tyranitar24 | August 04, 2008 | News | Wii Gaming Tech/Hardware
Satoru Iwata, the President and CEO of Nintendo, has told MCVUK they're working hard on their next console, adding the design of the new console needs to be vetted through the whole company. Could we be seeing the newest Nintendo console sooner then we think?
Nintendo fans rejoice – the next addition to the Japanese company’s family of home consoles may be here sooner than you think.

The platform holder’s president Satoru Iwata has admitted that the firm is hard at work on a follow-up to the all-conquering, motion-sensing system.

However, Iwata added that current designs having to "be thoroughly vetted" before being ready for market.

He commented:

“The hardware team started work on the next thing as soon as they were done with their previous project, but what they think up doesn't necessarily become a product.

“We only turn something into a product after it's been thoroughly vetted inside the company.

They must be using the PS2's current success as a guideline. They probably think that the Wii will be successful while the Wii2 is on the market.

They've been talking about starting development for a while now, production gives a false impression that the R&D is done and it's ready to roll though. Given there's no actual final decision on medium, processing, gpu, network, memory and so on, it's a bit hard to say it's in production.

Regardless it took them a bit over 4 years to crank out the Wii once they started to confirm work on a successor so I wouldn't expect it to arrive in the next couple years.

Hmm . . . I'm really curious about it I personally can't think of anything that would be moving forward instead of going back to the old days, or continuing on with the same type of model they're doing now...

I wonder if it's a new generation or what the DS Lite was to the DS Phat.

The thing is, Sony and Microsoft are probably working on their next system as well. That's just how the industry works.

Of course there working on it, you don't think they just sit around all day doing jack.

Being the first one out is a big advantage these days.

well hopefully i'm not buying an Xbox 360 too late into the game, heard the Codename: Xbox 720 is coming soon.
But, as long as NINTENDO shoves us into the Next generation of Graphics, while maintianing the great Quality of Zelda and Metroid Games....and the Okay quality we've seen from Mario.

They'll probably announce it formally at next year's E3. Though, I think the console will probably be released sometime in 2010. I wonder what they're planning on doing though: improve on the motion sensing or go for something new altogether? Also, the WiiMotionPlus accessory should unlock more of the Wii's potential (and hopefully we'll see some games which can finally use the motion-sensing technology better). So they're probably not going to rush into releasing the Wii's successor.

I am thinking that probably the WiiMotionPlus will be built into the new Wii Remote, that way if you have the old Wii Remote and you don't want to buy a new one, you can buy a WiiMotionPlus and play the Wii2.

It's no surprise for them to say this. But to let it slip so early?

That's like releasing a console, then a week later saying "Look at this NEW console we're working on!"

Hopefully they're working on a better production process so there aren't so many shortages next gen.

Hopefully they're also working on getting more quality developer support. I don't have a party everyday, Nintendo, I DO need some serious games.

Yeah, this new console needs to take its time so there is room for casual AND serious games on it. That would attract all gamers.

Don't get too excited now. The title is just a dirty trick to pull readers in. Obviously, they don't care if it's a bit misleading.

They are beginning to work on a new system...not release a new system. I am with whoever said 2010 would be suitable.
