Final Fantasy XIII Is Not In Development For 360 Yet

Square-Enix's/FFXIII's Director, Motomu Toriyama has said in a recent report that his team are currently not in the developing of the Xbox 360 port version of the game at the moment becuase the development kits needed are yet to arrive.

In addition to this he has said that his team are "fully concentrating on the PS3 version".

It’s being reported that Square-Enix have not yet begun developing Final Fantasy XIII for the Xbox 360, mainly because their 360 development kits haven’t arrived yet.

Motomo Toriyama, the game’s director, said “We’re making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later. I’m telling [the development team] to not think about the Xbox 360 right now. We can think about it after the development kits arrive. Right now, we’re fully concentrating on the PS3 version”.

Final Fantasy XIII was announced to be coming to the 360 ‘day and date’ with the PS3 version, as a simultaneous worldwide release, excluding Japan (the 360 version will not be sold in Japan). While it depends on the speed of the porting process, the 360 version could hold back the release of the PS3 version as it sounds like it will be done first on PS3. The 360 version, however, won’t influence any content changes for the PS3.

    So the trailer shown at E3 was just to show the game was on the Xbox 360 and was not representative of the Xbox 360's graphics, as i recall Square stating this game was built to take full advantage of the CELL and that the CELL was the reason they were able to reach near pre rendered graphics.

      Those graphics were CG, they weren't even PS3 graphics..

          Uh, it was an FMV. It most likely was running off a PC.

    Odd I thought that Crystal Tools 1.0 supported the PS3, PC and 360 when they announced the revision of the name. Even more strange is that Square already has SDK units floating around from their other projects but maybe it's just them short ordering the supply and working with only what they needed for units.

      Good point. It does come off as an odd statement. I hope it really is a true port, but we all know that means the 360 is going to get the "Final version" and we'll have to either wait for DLC or buy whole new game to get the "final mix".

      No. The PS3 version will be held back so that FFXIII can have a simultaneous release for both PS3 and 360 in NA and EU.

      So the 360 version as a whole is delaying the game.

    So the fact that they're giving 360 Final Fantasy 13 isnt enough. They have to make every ps3 user (besides japanese) wait till the 360 version is good and done. Thats a Double stab to Sony.

      It's not like it's going to take a decade to port..They know the 360 hardware, they'll get the kit and start working on it, then once the PS3 version is completed, that's when they'll work full-steam on both porting and localization. At most a few months delay, if that.

    I say just worldwide release FF13 for the PS3 and let the 360 come afterwards. Oh wait they won't cause that would actually help the PS3 sales.
