As revealed at E3 last month, Sony is going to be releasing an 80GB PlayStation 3 at the tidy price point of $399. Release dates have been conflicting, but it's now been confirmed for August 27.

Speculation on the features available for the model circulated the net following the announcement; online retailer GAME has listed everything that will be included. Read on.

GAME’s page reaffirms that the machine will include Sony’s motion-sensing Dualshock 3 joypad, but adds that it will not include any of the features that were removed from the older 60GB machine – these include PS2 backwards compatibility, built in memory card reader or SACD playback.

Additionally, it has just two USB ports and does not include an ethernet cable.

Other sites listing the machine include Gamestation and Play.com.

It's hardly been a rampage, they have sold more but the Playstation 3 has been steadily cutting its sales figures.

What? They want us to dish out the extra money for no extra shit? *bleep*ers. They're not getting a dime.

Dish out extra money? You do know this is a price cut, right? 80GB was originally $499. They have to do something to make the price cut possible, therefore they took out the BC and Ethernet cable.

Removing features to lower the price isn't a cut, it's a rip.

This is what happens when you don't read and you shoot your mouth off.

        @ Raziel - I thought it was about $599?

Nope. 60GB started off as $599, then a price cut happened. Then after the price cut, 60 and 20 were discontinued and replaced with 80GB at $499 (using software instead of hardware for the BC) and 40GB for $399. What Sony is technically doing is replacing the 80GBs with the 40GB model, but with extra space.

Never thought I'd say this, but I'm glad to be an early adopter of the original 60GB model haha.

Don't forget Raziel, when the 80GB was $599 the 60GB was $499 or $449 to end shipment of the console stack.

Yes, but will it run Crysis?

    And more importantly, PS2 games?
    No...No it won't

I'm buying the $499 MGS4 bundle before this comes out so I can get BC, and MGS4.

You better do it now. It's no longer in production. All that's left is what has already been shipped.

I was looking forward to the 80GB model, but no Backwards Compatibility? I don't see it worth the money really. Even with the damn extra space.
