Sakura | April 17, 2007 | News | Wii
Although there is no date yet, soon Neo Geo games will be available to buy with your Wii Points as Virtual Console games. This is an interview with the president of SNK to get all of the juicy details on the Return of the Neo Geo. I'm sure we all remember this system.

So what Neo Geo game are you buying? :D
Virtual Console sales are on the rise, and with it comes a new system to add to your all-in-one Wii package. The launch of the Neo Geo console over Wii's Shop Channel is imminent, and while no final date has been released it's a landmark event that gamers are looking forward to worldwide. So to get the latest in VC goodness, we decided to hit get the news directly from the source. Nintendo may be housing the system, but SNK still calls the shots when it comes to Neo Geo, so we tracked down Ben Herman, president of SNK Playmore USA to give us the 411 on all things retro, and the future of SNK Playmore as we head into the next generation of gaming.

This is cool. I'm glad to see that the wii shop is developing so quickly. The whole idea of downloading a system is intriguing. I can't wait to see how this turns out. At least, when I get a Wii.

Some of the best games ever made for Neo Geo were the titles in the Aero Fighters series. These are top down fighter games a la Raiden style, but they are superior to Raiden in every way I can imagine. The key to the Aero Fighter's uniqueness is that you can choose from different pilots who each have a different plane. Each plane has different firepower as well as different special bombs. In two player mode the characters you choose literally have an impact on how you play the levels. Not only this, the games harken back to the classic mode of play that I first found in 1942, a single player shooter from ages ago. The similarity lies in the ability to watch the patterns of bullets and dodge them with quick reflexes and good timing. Sometimes there are so many bullets on screen its unbelievable that they can be dodged yet you can snake around and do it. Newer shooters depend more on things like shields or "helpers" and send out bullets so quickly you really can't dance around like an angel of death . I think Aero Fighters II is one of my favourite games of all time, when played with 2 players.

There are other very famous titles including the Samurai Showdown fighter games, and of course King of Fighters. Metal Slug is probably the one that most of you will recognize, though King of Fighters characters eventually filtered into Capcom titles.
