2K Boston's Ken Levine says he "loves" the world of System Shock (the series contains the spiritual predecessors to BioShock), and would be keen on a third game in the EA-owned series if the opportunity ever came up. Levine is currently tied to Take-Two.

This is especially interesting news as a third game in the series was in pre-production status for awhile until EA decided it "didn't give a sh**" about the game (according to Levine).

“Would I turn my nose up at another round with Shodan? No,” he said.

When asked specifically if he would ever make System Shock 3, Levine said: “Life is long. Who knows. But right now, certainly, I’m engaged with my employer, Take-Two, who doesn’t have ownership of that franchise.”

He added: “I love Shodan, I love the world.”

System Shock has been dead for almost ten years now, with System Shock 2 releasing in 1999.

Levine is currently working on a secret project at Take-Two, while BioShock 2 is being built primarily at 2K Marin in California.

Considering Bioshock's success and the franchises now celebrity status I wouldn't be surprised to see a next gen version in the next few years.

I'd shit myself happy if System Shock 3 was made and came out on a next-gen console. That'd be a must-buy for me, especially if it carries on the plot where it left off. (i.e. Rebecca being "infected" with SHODAN).

The only thing I wpon't be able to stand is the influx of Portal fanboys bombarding forums with "OMG! SHODAN iz copyed off GLaDOS" >_>
