Has Sackboy Become The PS3's Mascot?

Nintendo has Mario, Xbox has Master Cheif, but what does the PS3 have? LittleBigPlanets cute and cuddly sackboy seems to have taking that role. Sony has been pushing this game like no other, and want to turn sackboy into a recognizable figure.

Sony is preparing Little Big Planet's Sackboy to take on the hefty role of a PlayStation 3 mascot, according to a report from Advertising Age. We know that the company is counting on the downloadable game to sell hardware, but the planned marketing push goes much deeper than that. "We want Little Big Planet to lead the charge into a new genre of gaming and turn Sackboy into the next emblematic character for the PS3," said SCEA marketing manager Mark Valledor. "This is a very big title for us."

    Marking him as emblematic and making him the mascot are two different things. Kratos, Master Cheif and Crash are emblematic. But they aren't official mascots or anything. They were or are for their time a symbol for the company. But they aren't quite the same as a Mario or Sonic. Though putting Sackboy in that position certainly could elevate him to a Mascot like status.

      Well they are clearly trying to set it up as this years big have to have game. If it is sucessful they can actually run with it and use Sack boy as if nothing else an unofficial mascot. Then tey have something to compete with Mario and Sonic on that level. And the likes of Kratos to compete with Master Cheif on that level.
