Australian's are shafted yet again with a super high price on the game Rock Band. The first game is only NOW being released in October, as the second iteration hits the shelves in the US. What are the publishers thinking, we have huge pockets?

Well we know prices are dear here, we sort of expect it as a matter of course, but EA’s official announcement of pricing for Harmonix’s Rock Band is at $AU520 to fully equip yourself out with the full rig, while in NZ the same was announced with GamePlanet beginning to take orders for a game being released in OCTOBER.

Now for a “game” that is ludicrous to a major extent. It smacks of “we don’t care about your market” and you’ll pay it if you want it bad enough. Seriously, that’s more than the cost of a top level SKU console. When we look at prices of the same item in the UK or the US, there’s a huge difference in pricing. Why, don;t tell me there’s a huge difference in the costing of UK Pal game to the Australian PAL game, when they are both supposed to be the same.

I know, it absolutely insane. Who in their right mind has that sort of money for a "game" . . sure, you get some equipment with it, but seeing that the same gear is $US189 state-side, even with some % higher costing's, a jump to %AU520 is just uncalled for and almost impossible to justify.

We always get ripped off but man this takes it up to 11! Our dollar is worth 95 US cents so why the huge price hike?

Absolutely ridiculous pricing. What is the US equivalent pricing?

    $520 Aussie = $451 US
    $189 US = $217 Aussie

I'm sorry, why the *bleep* are we getting ripped off so much? I could buy like 6-7 games for that amount of cash, or get a Wii and say Brawl, or god knows what else.

Current US retail price for Rock Band II is $US 189.99 from both GameStop and Amazon. and the current exchange rate has it as 520.00 AUD = 451.252 USD Now that is a huge hike in anyones terms.

I'll be keeping an eye on it closely, we do have a contact at EB's so we'll be monitoring their system and certainly inform everyone once we have a pricing from retailers. But currently it stands at those figures in the article above.

You could buy a whole console for that freakin much.

Only a complete dumb-ass (or super fanboy) would buy that.

I'm a super-fan-man and I wouldn't buy one at THAT price. I'm a collector of games with a huge selcetion of CE and LE Xbox 360 games, but that one is NOT coming home anytime soon, that is for sure.

Holy shit, that is an incredibly high price for Rock Band. Dunno why they must rip of Aussies like that. If I was in Australia I'd see if I could import it from North America.

Man, thats *bleep*ed up. I would be surprised if many people bought it.

Trouble is, with Nth American games, their region format (NTSC) will not play on our PAL consoles, so we'd be up for an extra game anyhow.

We could import from a UK supplier, as several ship ex-Hong Kong, so freight is quite cheap and offsets the higher $AU - £GBP value . . But thanks for the thoughts anyhow. most appreciated.

But XBox, that only applies to the 360 only owners. As soon as this price was announced I picked up a US copy from Ebay (PS3 version). Snagged myself some DLC from the American store and have been loving Rock Band since I got it.
