Codemasters announce FUEL: largest environment in race gaming

Linkin Park Fan | August 19, 2008 | News | PC Playstation 3
This will be the third next gen game from Codemasters, whose first two games DiRT and GRiD got pretty positive reviews. Now they have announced their new title, FUEL.

FUEL is an open world free for your enjoyment to roam with home tuned vehicles; compete in races and pull off the biggest stunts.

The game is due for a 2009 release. Click the link to view a developer's introduction video for the game.
Codemasters has today officially announced FUEL. Set to revolutionise multi-terrain racing with the largest environment ever created in race gaming, FUEL will present players with an astonishing no-boundaries playfield that's over 5,000 square miles (14,000+ km˛) in size. Creating the ultimate competitive go-anywhere racing experience, FUEL will have players competing across wildly different terrain and executing spectacular death-defying stunts as they race dozens of varied two and four-wheeled rides and explore this epic world on an unprecedented scale.

FUEL is set in an alternate present in which whole swathes of the globe have been ravaged by the effects of climate change brought on by decades of environmental abuse. Here oil prices have rocketed and yet a new breed of racing junkie takes to the wastelands, pitting their grungy home-tuned vehicles against each other in an all-new extreme sport as they compete to win fuel supplies. To triumph means travelling the wastelands to challenge the best; from the tsunami-wrecked pacific coast through the Nevada wastelands, including the Grand Canyon, up treacherous snow-capped mountains, thick forests, arid deserts, abandoned lakeside resorts and much more.

Well test drive unlimited was HUGE, and it was annoying when you had to drive to the other side of the island.

Lets see how this pans out.

Agreed, while they weren't the best racing games, they're certainly fun.

I agree with slumpey monkey. Roaming around a HUGE island on test drive was very irritating, and it took up to 15 minutes to get to your race. If there isn't a way that you can teleport yourself to a location, it will be more annoying than fun.

It is a matter of taste. In Burnout Paradise, I'm not to fond of having to drive from one end of the map, to the other, just to start a race. 'auto-start' abilities would be nice. Being forced to explore in this map would be fine for the initial location searching. Like the map is greyed out, except for the places you discover.

6000 square miles would be what? Probably about 71x71 miles? Would take a while to explore, but it would be fun the first time around. Not so much after you've found most everything, and if you had to drive all over the place just to start missions/races.....

      yeah, Its fun to cruise.

But It sucked when you had to take like 15 mins to drive to a freaking car showroom and find out that it only sells class D cars.
