PSP-3000 submitted to FCC for testing and approval

Livewire_19 | August 19, 2008 | News | Playstation Portable
Did you think that the rumored PSP-3000 model was fake? Well, think again. Sony has already sent a new PSP model marked PSP-3001 to the FCC for testing.

The FCC reports are dated July 7, with the testing dates listed as July 9 to July 16. According to Ask-wi.com, FCC certification usually takes about 2 to 4 weeks, so that part is pretty much done.

There's a lot of pretty technical stuff on the FCC reports and while there's no big "Pandora-proof" seal anywhere there, I'd say it's pretty fair to assume that this new model would carry some sort of heavy protection against Pandora, just like the PSP-2000 TA-088v3.
The FCC has come through again, giving up testing info on Sony's upcoming PSP-3001 redesign. It's still the same generation PSP and still has most of the same parts (802.11b Wi-Fi) and still plays the same games, so we're guessing most of the changes will be internal and focused on lowering costs and making the thing harder to hack. Why do we think that? Because that's exactly what Jack Tretton of SCEA said in the roundtable at E3, that Sony's working on securing the platform from piracy. We'll just have to wait and see whether it's worth upgrading to this version if you've already got a PSP.

Just an FYI, the above pictures are not of the PSP-3000. Look at the diagram they submitted to the FCC. It's still a HOME button, not a Playstation button. >_>

No more SKU's NO MORE SKU's......everyone say it with me!!!! Personally I think Sony should worry more about putting some decent shit on the PSP for now.

Because trying to stop all the piracy isn't important.

Stopping piracy shouldn't have anything to do with ME spending another $200. Besides my Fat PSP works just fine.

Why would you NEED to buy another one?

Anyway from surfing the web, and what i've seen, Guticb is correct in his statements.

A Pandora Battery allows you to hack a PSP and install custom firmware on it. They can either be made by taking a Sony battery apart or can be bought online.
But a PSP with custom firmware is way more useful, so if the 3000 can't be hacked I would stay far away from it.

Spend more time on software, and less time on playing theoretical tug-of-war with hackers.
