From the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, Konami has announced that they will be handle publishing duties for the Hudson's newly announced Bomberman 2 (tentative title) for the DS. Bomberman sports a new futuristic look, but still aims to have that classic gameplay. The title will feature a mission-based structure to its story mode. Customization for players' own Bombermans can take up to 160,000 various different forms. Wi-Fi play will also be available, with gamers able to go head-to-head with three others through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, or up to seven others locally.

The game will hit in Europe in the first quarter of 2009. A US release hasn't been announced yet. Check out the rest of the screenshots here.

The provisionally-titled Bomberman 2 (Working Title) will see the veteran bomb-slinger undergoing a new look, with players invited to customize their Bomberman to their own taste. Hudson has also extended the gameplay, with the familiar setting of planting bombs to destroy encroaching enemies and clear levels extended into a more open format. Players are faced with varied missions and can customize their Bomberman character in more than 160,000 ways. In addition to the single-player mission, Bomberman 2 (Working Title), will also boast a Versus mode for up to four players using Wi-Fi connection or eight players using Wireless versus.
