Call of Duty Black Ops Voted ‘Best Game Ending’ Of All Time

Well it seems Sony has finally admitted that Exclusive titles with publishers and 3rd party developers is at an end.
I've been a stand for this for some time now and believe it was definitely in the wind for almost 18 months or more. Developers and 3rd party publishers can no longer sit by and see other titles being sold on multiple platforms, as their sit in store shelve with a platform that has a small attachment rate, or only offers them one avanue for return on their huge investments.
Ive been saying this for at least the last 18 months or more. That 3rd Party Exclusivity with major companies such as Sony, MS and Nintendo will be and is a thing of the past. So it was great to finally get some validation around that when seeing a recent interview with Sonys president of Sony Computer Entertainment Euorpe David Reeves with GameIndustry.biz.
Developers and also 3rd party publishers can no longer afford to adopt the now out dated method of exclusive content for one platform. The cost of game development has risen substantially over the last few years to a point that being exclusive no longer serves the purpose it once did.

Exclusivity really is something that's fading off because third party companies are realizing that the best way to make money is to go multiplat. As a result, console developers can rely only on themselves to put out good exclusive titles.
i think it's just most apparent with sony losing ff13 right now tho. :\
But it's also interesting to not, that it was David Reese who sort of started the Mirror's Edge Time Exclusive "rumour" last week when discussing the game with journalists. Yet this week comes out and makes this comment about Exclusivness being a thing of the past.
A bit of double standards if you ask me. Not picking on Sony, but they do try this with several major development houses, and do often create a sense of false exclusivity with games.
When in fact, when you get down and discover the real facts, many were never going to be exclusive in the first place.
Mass effect sold millions
Halo 3 sold millions
Metal gear solid sold millions
Gears of war sold millions
Final fantasy Sold millions
????
I'm sure that when PS3 turns profitable their opinions will change.
"I think we have to accept that exclusivity is NOT a thing of the past, but it is probably with publishers. We might do a few things, where we feel that we need a push here or a push there."
Makes sense to me. If I had a game that had the opportunity to sell a mil plus on one console and about the same on another.....damn right I would do it.
I think for the most part this only goes on about how Sony won't be intensionally getting exclusives, one thing Sony know like Nintendo do is how much games cost to make these days as they actually make them, they are on the bottom of the ladder with other developers watching games franchises that used to cost $15,000 to make in PS1 era now costing $100 million to make.
While Nintendo don't seem to mind exclusives i think Sony are starting to see how much some developers are struggling without going multiplatform. I don't include Microsoft in this as they don't make a single game they haven't the knowledge or the know how they just get other companies to make games for them, obviously they buy the company first but it's just not the same.
They might see the spiralling costs but i don't think they quite realise how much something as simple as motion capture is an expensive route to take and all games need it if they want realism... Gaming isn't cheap and i think it is good that Sony realises that, might cost them in the long run but business is about making money not putting other businesses out of business just for the sake of having 3 games another console doesn't have.
Anyway I don't see this as a bad thing, I mean sure I was upset for FF13, but honestly did see the logic for going multiplatform after I got my head straight; still didn't like the FF13 exclusive to PS3 BS though.
I mean Sony shouldn't be only waiting for more exclusives from 3rd parties when they should really be focusing on 1st and 2nd parties.
Either way I agree with most of the article interview.
I agree with iLLmatic and Koloth here.
