Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 instruments incompatible on Wii

Twisted | August 30, 2008 | News | Playstation 3 Wii
Guitar Hero: World Tour's instruments and Rock Band 2's instruments will not be compatible with each other, like the 360 and PS3 versions are. Gamers using the Wii wanting to buy only one set of instruments and a single copy of a game will miss out on this opportunity, unfortunately.
Following on from the news that Line 6 technology had been dropped from the Wii version of Guitar Hero World Tour, a little more bad news has unfortunately emerged from Activision which affects both World Tour and EA's rival product, Rock Band 2.

Rock Band 2's instrument peripherals will not be compatible with the Wii version of Guitar Hero World Tour, and similarly Guitar Hero World Tour's instruments can not be used with the Wii version of Rock Band 2. Brian Bright, Guitar Hero World Tour's project director, has spoken out on the matter.

"Basically on the Wii... GH3 followed Nintendo's guidelines about all third party controllers had to use the Wii mote. So GH3 did, and so did GHWT.. But RB somehow did not, and therefore they are not compatible with us.

"Nothing we could do on this one, I don't know how HMX was able to bend the rules but they seemed to do so and here we are."

This is unfortunate news for players who were hoping to purchase the instrument set of either game and then buy a stand-alone copy of the other game. For players who are looking to get both games, you'll either have to pay for both the Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour instrument sets, or, shock horror, purchase a 360 or PS3 instrument set and buy a stand-alone copy of the other game.
