Guitar Hero: The Movie, yet another game to movie tie-in

XboxOZ360 | August 31, 2008 | News | PC Playstation 3 Company Misc
Here's an interesting item on the Movie to Game Tie-Ins that are happening so much these days. Please slip along and check it out.

Do we really need any more game tie-ins?
With movies like Max Payne set for release this year and Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li & Tekken next year along with talks of making a Gears of War movie and a Bioshock movie, it seems that Guitar Hero is the next game that’s been thrown into the hat to be adapted to the big silver screen.

Producer/Director Brett Ratner has apparently asked Activision if he could make a movie based on the popular hit video game Guitar Hero. He did of course name the latest installment in the Guitar Hero franchise, Guitar Hero: World Tour.

“It could be about a kid from a small town who dreams of being a rock star and he wins the Guitar Hero competition. One of these dreams-[come-true] kind of concepts.” Storyline of course sounds like your typical teen age kids dream comes true and so forth. I would of thought seeing as Brett named the latest Guitar Hero game would of been better to have a group of 3 kids that form a World Tour Band and take it to the big league.

Those are honestly some of the worse movie ideas I've ever heard.

I can see it now, Jack Black in "Guitar Hero: The Quest To 100% Through The Fire And The Flames", though obviously all that will be in the movie is Jack Black smoking pot, talking to his bald fat friend, phoning the devil for a party and then 3 hours later playing the song wasted. All the while Jack Black will attempt some humour involving women he will never get and tying it into pushing buttons a mild gag to get the fake guitar into play somehow.

      More like Michael Phelps. Lol.

But seriously, how do you make a movie of Guitar Hero?

I think those types of games could be the best kind to turn into movies, so you won't have everyone saying "That sucked it was so far from the game!"

Wow, doesn't sound too promising. I hope it doesn't turn out to be a montage of people playing GH, because watching people play GH is just as boring as this to-be movie sounds.

the only game-turned-movie that i thought was any good was the resident evil series in my opinion

The original Mortal Kombat movie was the best. And of course Advent Children.

But seriously, a GH movie? How lame can people get? Why not go after a game that has an actual story behind it?

Better idea - how about they hire that loser kid that dropped out of school to play GH to do the movie?

That's what I was thinking. And The Wizard angle wouldn't be to bad with a decent story behond it. You can't just have some kid with dreams of glory story. Need to go with the kid that has never picked up a controller but is naturally gifted angle. That would make for an interesting plot.

Yeah, like make the kid autistic or something. Don't just put some queer geek in there and think you can make a good movie.

This could be an okay movie if it was a comedy, but they better not try and make it seems serious.

Or they could make it a Reality TV show style movie come game that became a movie that then became a Reality show . . . or something like that . . .

But seriously, they need to draw a line somewhere, anywhere . . . as most are just not worth the effort that goes into them.

The only reasonable movie game-tie in's that sound remotely good, are Bioshock, and Gears of War if they pull it off right. Guitar Hero Movie? Jesus, Hollywood, think of good movies for once, damn.

An independent comedy based around the actual guitar hero game probably wouldn't be too bad, like the main character was a Guitar Hero virtuoso or something.

I bet it's gonna be like "The Pick of Destiny" with Jack Black and Tenacious D.

I personally think the South Park version of Guitar Hero will always be the best. A complete movie for GH? Useless.
