It's nice to see retaliation from the good side of video gamers. These game freaks are protesting to show how the majority of video gamers are intelliegent and not affected by the games they play, or they are affected by the video games they play, but in a positive way.

When it comes to the tragic event concerning the shootout at the Virginia Tech Campus the other day, we know that it is still the time to grieve, mourn, and feel sorry. But Jack Thompson just won't let up. Because you see, the "school shootings expert" connected the killings to video games which he defined as "killing simulators".

As a response, online site Empire Arcadia declared recently a protest that will take place in New York City at Bryan Park on Saturday May 5 at 1 p.m. According to the site, everyone is invited but the focus is to gather as many gamers as possible to show the world how real gamers play peacefully and responsibly.

Of course, the death of the 33 young individuals will be commemorated and due respect will be given them. There will also be shows and protests to declare that gamers shouldn't be blamed for things like this. According to the site's head, known as Emperor TriforceGameMaster,

I'm tired of the complaining and displacing of blame to tragic stuff like this. Since they will do nothing about it then I guess us gamers will have to. If need be we'll gather the largest force of gamers on the planet to protest against random violence in schools and in the world period. I wonder at times who is worst the psycho’s doing this crazy stuff or the politicians that want to place blame on a videogame.

What more can we say but this, fellow gamers, is for a good cause and for a bigger battle.

I bet people who say it's all because of violence in the videogames have never played one in their lives... Same can be said for movies. There is violence in movies and it's been like that for years! Go blame 300 if a new war starts!

I heard that the person who did it committed a suicide before he was captured. No one left to blame now.

It makes me sick to my stomach that clueless people who as teo said probably haven't even picked up a video game in their lifes act like they are experts on the subject and use video games as a scategoat simply because they don't know what else to blame it on.

Video games are nothing more than today's scapegoat fad. The 50's had black leather jackets and comic books, the 70's with "sinful dancing", 80's was rap, etc.

As I said many times in the past. It's not the video games fault it's the person who plays it's fault. The games aren't telling you to go out and kill people. It's just there for you to play.

Obviously Jackie needs to play some games before he talks.

After twenty minutes of deciding wether or not to justify this with a comment, I have decided that I will, but only to ask where the inspiration for violent video comes from?

As I said in a related thread on Neoseeker, the only reason Jack Thompson is claiming that video games are responsible for mass killings (without even knowing what the games are REALLY about) is because he grew up in a society where such things didn't exist. Yet he's also into books that can get pretty violent; if violent books were banned, then he would get really PO'd.
In this sense that makes Jack Thompson a hypocrite because he wants violent video games to be banned but doesn't say anything about violent books. I see very little-if any-difference between the two, especially considering that some of the violent books that Jack Thompson reads are very descriptive. Almost as descriptive-maybe more-than the violent video games that he seeks to ban. That said, he's a hypocrite.

I would attend this, but it's too far away from where I live, but my support in this cause is unwavering and I support it nonetheless. If there's a list of gamers that support the cause of showing these politicians that it isn't the games that cause people to go psycho, then you can throw my Neoseeker username on that list.
Besides, certain events in one's life cause them to go berserk; in other words it's a case of one thing leads to another and something (maybe something big, maybe something small) to set that person off. Video games don't create psychology in kids; what they experience in their lives is what molds their psyche. It's unfortunate that some people [Jack Thompson] fail to realize this, so they attempt to make life harder for gamers who play these games.
