Kids banned from violent video games for microwaving cat

Krunal | September 09, 2008 | News | Misc
Now what I'm trying to remember is a game in which the character (or someone) puts a cat in a microwave because it seems that two Canadians have AVOIDED going to jail for putting a cat in the microwave, and instead as part of their punishment they've been banned from violent video games. As well as microwaving a cat, they also caused $25,000 of damages in a home which they broke into.

Why a ban from "violent" video games seems more deserving than a jail time... I have no idea...
Two Canadian teens who broke into a home, did $25,000 in damages and then microwaved a cat to death have avoided jail time, but are banned from playing violent videogames

Guess they just keep trying to find ways to make video games look bad... It's really, really sad and pathetic.

I just don't understand how you could bring yourself to do that to a cat...

I'd personally like to show the kids their own guts after doing something like this.

    quote Article
According to court ordered psychological assessments, video games were not found to have directly encouraged the boys' actions. But barring their access to such games was nonetheless a recommendation put forward in the assessments.
The video game ban was a recommendation. Even then police aren't dumb enough to think that these kids were influenced to do that because of a game; but rather advised that they shouldn't play violent games because they (the kids) are obviously mental.

I can't see why they thought that barring the kids from video games was more suited than a jail term for MUTILATING a cat and then theres the robbery as well and $25,000 of damages.

Haven't these people learned? Haven't they read from independent studies done at top universities (read:Harvard) that cite that video games are not responsible for driving an individual to do anything that s/he isn't innately capable of doing?

Its been proven by science! What more evidence could you possibly want?

Apparently they want a big flaming message sent by God saying that video games do not influence anyone but those who are already capable.
So they'll keep complaining for the rest of our lives, or until non-video-gamers become a minority.

I have to admit. I've had many a scenario in which cats have pissed me off.

I've always found spraying them with a hose sufficient.

They should get jail time though.

When I clicked the source link, there was an advertisement for the CATS Broadway show right beside the article. That was just terrible.

You know what's also terrible? Those teens in the article. Might as well save the taxpayers some money by putting them back in their school and letting the other kids rip them apart. They deserve every bit of ridicule they receive from their peers on top of the court's hearing. Jail time might've been nice, too.

FYI, the article is banning THE KIDS from violent games, not the games are banned. Learn to understand people.

Either way thats a good thing, last thing we need is them doing any more stupid shit. I also I feel sad for the cat, I have 3 cats, one being mine, and I feel horrible about it. Cats shouldn't be tortured like this.

EDIT: Then again, I suppose giving them Jail time would have been good as well.

So a kid fries a cat and forget going to jail, they're FREE to roam the streets... I'd rather they be sent to jail, that they for the same time that they're banned from video games, they'd be in a cell THINKING about what they did. You do realise that you can't play games in a jail right?

I think you're absolutely right. Probation is the biggest joke for underage people. It's basically a slap on the wrist. Be in by 9pm? Please, a teen should be in the house around that time anyway.

You do read right? Check the edit in in my comment, obviously I stated that jail would have been better.

Good going Krunal, My post clearly stated the games aren't being blamed here, its them being banned from violent video games. Which Is good as well as jail time. The only reason I stated that cause everyone was making a scene how video games are getting blamed when in actuality they're not.

Seriously these people need their brains replaced because they are nothing but a bunch of morons.

The boys are both 16 now. It's been nine months since the cat was killed, and they haven't been able to explain why they did it.

The psychological assessments were not able to determine a motive.

"We are perplexed," Crown prosecutor John Laluk said. "There is certainly no evidence of mental illness."

They're not even blaming video games, the kids are just banned form violent video games as punishment, which is ridiculous in its self.

I think I better punishment for them would be to not let them play games all together.

That'll show them. I don't see how taking away video games will affect them in any huge way.
