Last Friday, Namco Bandai released some more information and screenshots for their upcoming dogfighting sim, Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces for the Nintendo Wii. In this new batch of info are details of the 2P Assist Mode, the different types of missions and info on new characters and ships.
The 2P Assist Mode functions almost like the 2P Co-Op Mode in Nintendo's Super Mario Galaxy: a 2nd player can take up a Wii Remote and use it as a separate aiming reticule for the ship's gunfire, allowing the first player to concentrate more on piloting the aircraft.
Four different mission types were introduced: Large Air Combat, Reconnaissance, Fleet Warfare, and Fortress Warfare. The Large Air Combat Mission is what you would expect: a large dogfight involving multiple crafts. Reconnaissance missions will have the player will go on surveillance, and scout ahead enemy bases or buildings. Fleet Warfare missions will have the player take on a naval fleet in an over-the-sea battle, while Fortress Warfare will pit the player against enemy bases, some of which are equipped with cannons ready to shoot them down.
Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces is developed by Namco Bandai's Project Aces - NBGI's Ace Combat team. It is based off of a series of novels by the same name: The Sky Crawlers by Hiroshi Mori. The game is set to release on October 16, 2008 for 7140 yen. The official site can be found here. You can check out the rest of the screenshots over at the source.
