Xbox 360 sales soar following price cuts

chautemoc | September 11, 2008 | News | XBOX 360
The price drop back in July had no real effect on Xbox 360 sales, but the one last week has seen sales increase over 100%, with some editions selling six times as fast this weekend past as the one previous, according to Microsoft.
Last Friday, Microsoft cut the price of all Xbox 360 editions, with the Xbox 360 Arcade selling for $199.99, the Premium Edition for $299.99 and the Xbox 360 Elite for $399.99. The price cuts were revealed well ahead of the official announcement through different ads and flyers.

How can they have any real numbers already? Wasn't the price drop just days ago? How much was the Elite before? $450?

The article lists literally a 3 day period over the weekend.

Woo hoo... A 3 day spike.

Break out the champaign and Dixie cups it is time to celebrate...

Is this really even news worthy? Nothing against you Chautemoc, but this srticle seems really rather pointless. After months of low sales they get a little spike and have to anounce it to the world. Does anyone really care? Now if they can carry it on to the end of the month then maybe you have something.

Any news can be posted here. If you don't like this news, why'd you bother clicking the link? This kind of news is infrequent, anyway.

      Great news for Microsoft. http://gamegrep.com/news/12307-blockbuster_selling_lots_of_bluray_players/

OMG, that is exactly the same thing I said the last time someone bitched about an article. Like, word-for-word, lol.

If thats the case then AR just plagiarized a comment you made to him from another article when he bitched about the blu-ray sales. Oh you thought I forgot. lol

I'm not talking about here. I'm talking about in general.

I clicked on it because I thought it would be something more interesting than a 3 day spike.

Frankly I don't care about the news. I have my 360 already. And I don't think it is "great news for Microsoft". It just comes off as a sort of "in your face" kind of thing.

Well, that's GameGrep for you. Sales articles almost always do that. It's something we've begun to get accustomed to.

You can't really claim what is and isn't news. What is trival to you may be interesting to others.

Now where did I claim it isn't news? I asked if it was "news worthy" and said "I don't care". But I didn't say it wasn't news or that others don't care.

I'm not surprised that the sales have come up. Regardless of how long it's been, it's still pretty obvious that it's going to have an impact on sales. Afterall, that's the reason they dropped the prices. =P

True, it's just a question of when. If price drops didn't work, companies wouldn't implement them. Love your avatar, by the way.

I think they had the press release on the sales numbers ready at the same time they decided to tell us that they knew that we knew the price cut was coming and so they officially announced it. Er wait a second did I type that right?

It's Microsoft logic so it takes a moment to sink in.

When something goes down in price it's gonna sell more.

Hopefully they don't go out of supply like the Wii when I want to get one.

Sony: "Still no plans for a price cut."

Because that's just really helping the thing along...

What would you suggest they do? Give away PS3s free?

That is a big price drop. That leads me to getting one of those instead of a PSP or a new DS. Though there are not many games I like on that system, I try to get with new games and such.

If there aren't many games you like, why would you buy it? A lowered price shouldn't change your preferences.
