If the 360 and PS3 versions of Fifa 09 were the same for the computer, then it would only work on 1-3% of people's computers, because of the massive need for CPU processing power. They made the computer version less needy so that more people could play it.

Posting on the EA forums, a UK staffer for the publisher has claimed that the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of FIFA 09 are “different” to the PC SKU as the huge majority of home computers simply wouldn’t be able to play them. Full thing:

The PC version of FIFA 09 is different to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions because of the CPU processing power required for the architecture of the game.

The majority of gamer’s PC’s do not have enough CPU processing power for this architecture, so FIFA09 on PC has been built to have the best possible graphics and gameplay engine while still being accessible to as many fans of the game as possible. If the architecture was identical to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, FIFA09 on PC would only be accessible to 1-3% of the PC systems on the market.

Having said that, FIFA09 on PC delivers a very deep gameplay engine, along with leading-edge visuals.

So there you have it. Want the best looking FIFA? Buy yourself a nice console.

I have a hard time believing this. It could be true for all I know, but it just seems...wrong.

if they were talking about graphics, then it would get shot down immediately, but since they are talking about processing, I'll at least give their claims a chance. There is no consumer PC on the market with a processor on par with the Cell, let alone the 360's chip. The biggest question I have is whether or not they really made use of them.

The quad cores could handle it. They're expensive as hell.

Wow. Great graphics. I LOVE FOOTBALL. I think the article is a bit hard to believe. Maybe this article shouldn't have been approved.

Why not? This article has nothing to do with graphics. It's entirely possible what they're saying could be true. Read iLLmatic's post.

It really comes down to the fact that consoles use almost 100% of their processing power for the games themselves. Computers, on the other hand, have many more background processes eating up RAM and processing power.
