Metallica Album Failed Quality Wise; Fans Turn To Guitar Hero For Better Sound

Twisted | September 17, 2008 | News | PC Playstation 3
Metallica fans are pretty upset after Metallica released a new album, Death Magnetic, that failed in sound quality. Now, the fans are turning to the Guitar Hero version of the song, that has surprisingly great quality. The Guitar Hero tracks were released last Friday.
Metallica fans are pissed. The release of the metal outfit's latest album, Death Magnetic, isn't quite what they were expecting, at least from a sound quality standpoint. Metallica fans contend that the album is overly distorted, that clipping distortion from the album being mastered too loud, are making for bad impressions.

How come it sounds better on the game? You'd think they use the same version as the record, making it identical.

I'm guessing because they didn't use the same version as the record. Maybe they heard it and didn't like it, and boosted it up.

I heard it and didn't like it so I shut it off. Good thing I don't play guitar hero.

It's pretty sad when you have to turn to Guitar Hero to get better quality songs than what the band released themselves.

What the source doesn't mention is who these "fans" are. If they're all gamers, then they probably are going to be more inclined to music from a video game.

Didn't anyone ever hear of an EQ? Most stereo systems these days come equipped with them. Heck, even iTunes has one!

its not that simple. the actual mastered tracks of the cd had the levels up too high, and it 'clipped' meaning the volume was too loud, and it kinda sounds static-y or distorted at times no matter what volume level your stereo is at.

Apparently the reason for the change is two separate masters. The CD/physical release version was brickwalled, turning the volume up to max. The Guitar Hero version is merely the mix, but not the master, hence the lower, clearer volume.
