Games We Love but Wish We Could Love Playing
7 hours 16 mins ago
We all know the tragic incident where a boy shot himself while trying to imitate Halo.
Dick Ward over at Xbox Focus has a few comments on the whole situation which should not be taken lightly - and should be heard, listened to, and understood - by gamers, parents, and legislators.
Obviously, this situation is bad: a child is dead and its a horrible tragedy. His family and members of community must be reeling from this, and certainly should be. This is a terrible occurrence, one that should never, ever, have to happen. None the less, this isnt an excuse for journalistic integrity to go out the window though.
The article didnt outright implicate games in the accidental death, but they mentioned them enough for people to make the link. People like Luke Plunkett of Kotaku, who should really know better, picked up the story and reported it as a Halo related death. Garbage like this can cripple our industry. and spits on journalism. If gaming sites post this stuff up, then how far can the mainstream keep going?
Rest in Peace, Joshua.

The sad truth is "a child is dead because was in reach of a gun, with a complete lack of education and security on handling firearms" - NOT because of a video game.
Not that I am calling for violence or blood or anything - just a little positive political action. We are a very large and strong group - and it is about time the public knows that. We aren't a bunch of 18 - 24 (or whatever the demographic is) year old know nothings. We have feelings and opinions too.
But alas- now I am torn- I am a Republican- but I support free-speech unconditionally when it comes to video games. And I am a moderately devout Christian- but I support Darwinism...
hmmm...
who the hell gives an 11 year old boy a fully automatic firearm?
However, I sure hope the video game haters don't blame Master Chief for this.
