God of War II tops the charts in both best-selling PS2 games and overall sales for the month of March.

The NPD sales numbers for March 2007 are in and God of War II slaughtered the competition. Kratos' second romp sold 833,209 units -- over twice as many as the next best-selling title, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 on the Xbox 360.

The PlayStation 2 is well-represented in the overall best-selling games of March with seven titles in the top 20. MLB 07: The Show comes in at number seven, right below the 360's Major League Baseball 2K7. And while the 360 version of Guitar Hero II debuted in the number three spot, the PS2 bundle is still going strong at number nine.

We know what you're thinking: the 360 version of Guitar Hero II came out on April 3, so why is it being included in NPD's March data? The reason is because NPD follows a 4-5-4 retail calendar, so the period this data is from covers March 4 to April 7.

The original God of War and Guitar Hero are still getting a boost from their sequels, making GoW the tenth best-selling game overall and GH the eighth best-selling PS2 game. A new Grand Theft Auto title will always come out strong, and the PS2 version of Vice City Stories debuted at number 11 overall. And, despite our best efforts, TMNT came in at number 15. The PS2 version was the best-selling edition of TMNT, with the 360 version next up at number 26.
