We all know Silent Hill's iconic enemy has never had an 'official' name, though he is popularly known as "Pyramid Head" or "Red Pyramid Thing" by the fans and game-makers alike.

But that seems to have changed for Silent Hill: Homecoming.

A scanned page from the official guide reveals that Pyramid Head now has a new name ... "Bogeyman"!

He'll always be known as "Pyramid Head" to us fans.

(i'm a bit annoyed that the Homecoming Pyramid Head design is directly ripped off from the movie. *sigh*)

Just another enemy? JUST ANOTHER ENEMY? He's not some stupid goomba from Mario that you just jump on, Pyramid Head had all the requirements for a horror game enemy. Play the Silent Hill series in a dark room, by yourself to understand.

      I'm not calling P-head by this...unoriginal name.

That's like saying Sephiroth is "just another enemy" or Bowser is "just another enemy".

Pyramid Head is THE survival horror enemy.

        Apparently you missed my point.
Sum it up, I don't really care what his name is, he's an enemy right? So yeah.

FYI I have played SH in a dark room in fact the light in my room is always off all day.

I've never even played any of the Silent Hill games, and I still think Pyramid Head sounds better.

Pyramid Head is a representation of James's guilt and desire for punishment, so he took the form of the executioners of Silent Hill (the town) who wore typical red executioner's hoods.

Though instead of giving Pyramid Head a red hood himself, the character designer gave him a heavy, sharp pyramid-shaped helmet to make it appear as though he was in pain while carrying it around.

Theres also a theory that underneath the pyramid is James himself.

No, I remember in an interview with Masahiro Ito (art director of Silent Hill and creator of PH) actually said if you took PH's helmet off, you'd get something similar to Valtiel. Mainly because he also said alot of things that totally contradicted the whole "PH is exclusive to James" thing. He wrote a comic ab out a PH with a white helmet, it had nothing to do with James, it didn't even had anything to do with the town of Silent Hill, it's only purpose was to "kill angels."

i think its funny they called him the boogeyman. he kinda seems like he could be called that to me. they know everyone is just gonna call him pyramid head tho, and i doubt they planned on stopping it. :0

I dont REALLY mind that much. But to many, Pyramid Head is one of the most memorable Horror-genre creatures, and for him to simply be renamed when given over to another developer is quite hit-and-miss I guess. Some will be annoyed. I like Pyramid Head more.

That's the lamest thing I've ever heard. He's the executioner or "Pyramid Head," or even Red Pyramid Thing dammit. -_-

Somebody actually made an interesting point in the comments.

"Oh C'mon! That's just what Joshua calls him probably! They won't call him the same as James, it wouldn't make sense, he doesn't go around wearing a tag written "My name is Pyramid Head." And James actually called him "that red pyramid thing." Are you people forgetting these things? Pyramid Head is the name WE call him, not his name in the game world. He doesn't have a proper name"

Up until SH: Origins, I never really thought that monsters ever had official names.

I hope that's true. It'd be nice if the new devs have a reason for giving him that name, rather than just screwing anoher thing up in the series.

Though if that is the case, then I can see what OXM mean when they said that Joshua acts like a 4 year old. Joshua is, what, 12 years old? That's a little too old to be believing in the Bogeyman.
