A controversial ending to the week long hype for Borderlands. The article discusses the dangers Borderlands faces due to the hype of KillZone 2, and how Borderlands has more to offer but isn't receiving the necessary coverage.

Borderlands, alternatively, has lots to offer as a shooter, as an RPG, as a vehicular combat-racer and as an overall interactive experience. Yet it takes a heck of a lot to get this game noticed at all. When new interviews pop up for Borderlands, no one seems to notice. One fuzzy, who-gives-a-care screenshot will arise for KillZone 2 and the internet gaming community fills with uproarious exuberance.

Yay, let's compare the quality of a game no one's played to another game no one's played and isn't even completed yet...

Seriously, they shouldn't be so bold about it, they could accidentally overhype it.

Borderlands looks good but this is getting ridiculous now, we get the *bleep*ing picture the game is massive but crossing genres so wildly in these previews is just making me dislike the game and it's not even the devs fault. I mean fair enough they are excited about the game but this is just annoying now, the game maybe good but as they say "jack of all trades, master of none". Borderlands might be big but like GTA before it the individual games will all be better so what these previews are now telling me is ignore Borderlands but buy all these other more dedicated and indepth better games.

Who knows...Halo actually managed to be a better shooter and a better racer than a lot of other games. It successfully crossed genres with seamless appeal.

It all comes back to the devs and how well all the features are implemented.

I remember the original KillZone not being that great because of the shooting mechanics, but the wonderful story presentation kept the game fresh. So it all depends.

I have never heard of this game before, haha. That's not a good sign.

I've always come to the judgement that (usually) better graphics equals a better game, means the devs had alot of time to develop the game, plenty of funds were at hand, the devs know what they're doing, etc.

So to knock killzone 2 for only having pretty graphics when you do not know crap about how the story will play out (especialy since kz 1 story is rather good for a fps) and other things that pertain to a shooter.

Borderlands keep screaming that they have 500,000 weapons or all that, thats nice but hey, you'll probably find an uber powerful gun and wont want to look at a different gun ever again.

And then they keep telling us about how this game is so plentiful in its play style "halo 3 meets diablo" I mean come on, I want to play a game where the theme is one thing so they can focus on making it great, not some circus of themes to where all of them are half assed.

I think the problem is that Borderlands is trying to be so many different things at the same time, that they're really not going to be able to form their own unique identity. So you will probably feel like you're playing five different games, rather than feel like you're playing Borderlands.

These guys'll have to be careful. So far each of their "Borderlands Blend" articles has been about what games it combines, and why it's better. Not a good sign.

not crazy about this "blend" stuff, I agree with some of the above posters, this kind of analysis doesn't do the game any favors. Besides, its largely flawed - most RPG games DO have more weapons than shooters, and of course Gran Turismo is not going to have the kinds of vehicles that you might see in an apocalyptic sci-fi title. The real question is, how distinct will each of those 600,000 guns and XXX vehicles feel? Chances are, there will be only a dozen or so distinct weapon/vehicle experiences. The same way that you had tons of weapons in Mass Effect, but all shot guns basically felt the same (just dealt more or less damage), all pistols felt the same, all assault rifles felt the same, etc. So whether there were 300, 600,000 or 6 million of them was irrelevant.

Who cares which one gets more headlines. If you like the game buy it. If not, don't. Its simple. Just because one game is getting hype doesn't mean its going to sell well.

    Hype. The green-eyed monster.
This blend bullshit is quite useless and not needed. Such unethical and vague arguments and judgements between compared games.
