McAfee already found a exploit that makes the channel crash.

Wii owners know that there are few things than taking the time to type out a long URL on the Nintendo Wii Opera browser, only to have the page crash for some mysterious reason. It would be slightly less traumatic with a keyboard, for sure.

But according to McAfee Alert Labs, the reason isn't always mysterious; it's because of a malicious little exploit. It turns out a JPEG image with a malformed header can crash the Internet Channel. That's the bad news, which you can see happen here.

The good news is that Opera already knows about the problem and version 9.10 is patched and has rendered the exploit powerless. But Wii's trial version is pre-patch, and it has to be manually updated.

So don't be lazy -- if you haven't updated your browser since April 11th, go forth to the store and get to it.

Sorry but I'm not dishing out $700 for a PS3. That is useless to me.

Anyways I probably won't update the Internet Channel anyways. Don't really need it considering I have a computer to use.

The cheapest console normally sells more because it appeals to the casual gamer more than the more expensive ones. Anyway, it's good that they caught this and managed to patch it. If they didn't, there would be a lot of unhappy Wii owners with pitchforks and torches.

Cut it out with your stupid fanboyism. It has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

And you're totally idiotic for thinking MICROSOFT, NOT NINTENDO, has something to do WITH A NINTENDO CONSOLE.

And your "arguments" aren't any better either.

yeaa, you tell em Reenee xD~~~ lets try to be on topic, though. This doesn't really surprise me; Nintendo's internet channel has had its fair share of exploits to it so it's bound to have more.

finalblade98, shut up right now. Whether buying a PS3 is for a good cause or not, or if it's even worth 700 bucks, is a matter of opinion. And the Wii doesn't suck, it is the best current-gen console.

This isn't even about sony or microsoft so please stop with the silly fanboyism. At least it's got patched, like Tekmosis said there are probably more waiting to be discovered yet.

There are always more to be discovered. There's probably some nerd in his mom's basement right now discussing with his buddies in 133t how to crash Nintendo all together. I suggest monitoring finalblade98 for that. Anyway, I'm happy I updated my system with the new software, although I don't really use the internet channel all that much. Real computers ftw.
