The demo was released just a couple of days ago for Bioshock, and it seems that the demo has caused a lot of trouble for 2K already as many gamers have noticed how the graphics in one particular section of the demo is appaling when compared to the XBOX360 version. 2K Forums' resident Community Manager Elizabeth Toby was however quick to respond to the situation with the below quote.

Also be check to take a look at the two screenshots in question below.

Hey guys,

First, I want to thank you for the acute attention to detail and the Spartan level of expectation our most devoted BioShock fans hold us to, and how excited you are and attentive to the BioShock PS3 demo. When we saw a post asking about issues found in the demo, we jumped on it immediately. And you know what, you're right. The texture in the PS3 demo of the downed Big Daddy does not match our level of quality either. This slipped by. We admit it. However, I want to assure you that this is an exception, and not a rule, and while I regret this oversight, we put a lot of love into making this game look amazing for the PS3 and I'm sure that when you play the rest of the demo you will agree that the textures are not all like this one instance.

As for the other issues and concerns, we are currently diligently working to replicate any bugs, and will report back to you with what we find. Thank you for your vigilance here and moving forward.

Yes, I have noticed that the dead Big Daddy's head looked like shit as well. If you look at it closely, you can see the pixels. Good thing they're going to handle this mess.

Can soemone tell me what part "Big Daddy" is in? I played the beginning of the demo, but I had too big a headache to finish it completely (hell I went to sleep at 6pm that day...) so even if I passed it, it would have been easy for me to miss...

Remember the part where there are 2 Splicers on the water? Well, after you kill them you can see a dead Big Daddy sitting on the water.

I think I must have shut down the PS3 before that part... I was only a couple minutes in before my headache stopped me playing the game...

It's shortly after you witness a lil' sister going to town on a splicer and then screaming for her Big daddy to help her after she gets jumped by a splicer.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one who noticed. After I finished playing the demo, I was like '*bleep* this, I'll just get the 360 version'. Plus I won't have to install 5GB into it. Still good to hear they'll do something about it.

They said that it was only in that part of the demo. The other parts were the same as the 360 version, only this one was crappier.

Wow...that's, like, really really bad. They need to fix that NOW.

      Krunal Oct 5, 08
I think they have fixed it, but the problem is many gamers don't believe that it has been fixed. To be honest, I don't know if this was actually a problem JUST with the demo, or if the full games going to be like that...

      Just that one particular one.

I also noticed some pixelation around some of the textures near to the woman talking to the revolver in the pushchair. They were on the arch slightly, nothing major and to be honest this game is old and dated, i have never played it before the demo so i thought it was normal haha...

@Zero - If it is just the one thing, maybe it isn't a big deal, but it DOES suck that the big Daddy on the PS3 version is obviously very terrible compared to the 360 version. People worry if there are more issues like this.

Seriously, it does look like 'bioshit'. Pixels are quite noticable -_-

    @Red - lol, yeah

It could be something. This was found on the demo. Who knows what other areas that could have been overlooked. This is but a small representation of what could have been some graphic errors.

What I am trying to get at is that the game is still fun, something like this doesnt detract from the gaming experience and I think making a big deal out of it just prooves how everyone only cares about the freaking graphics.

None of the reviews so far have mentioned problems like these, so I'm assuming this isn't anything big.

Still it doesn't exactly speak of top notch coding does it?

      iLLmatic Oct 6, 08
Yea, because every game with a single glitch is purely terrible programming

        Bale Fire* Oct 6, 08
It is if events like these are a regular occurrence. If a bad bit of code can be found in just a few minutes of the demo there could be lots of shoddy graphics in the full game. To me a small mistake like this is no big deal, but you can't tell me these people have done a very good job with the port if they had to put a 5 GB install in, have mistakes like this in it at a regular occurrence and all this a year later with even better technology.

Like I said its probably just a one off instance that was overlooked. No big deal.
        • 1
          iLLmatic Oct 6, 08
But you keep assuming that this one instance is prevalent in the whole game. You don't understand programming if you think having an error or missing something in a million lines of code means that you did a bad job. The 5GB install has nothing to do with the situation. That is a PS3 related "problem." The rest of the demo looks fine, it's just something with the texture on that Big Daddy. Point is, we can't say how many glitches are in the game, because we haven't played it.

        Bale Fire* Oct 6, 08
No I am not assuming this one instance is prevalent in the whole game, I said it could be. I am aware that we don't yet know how the final game will be but as an example it certainly is a indicator that this port was rushed. If I find a obvious spelling or grammar mistake in something chances are I'm going to find more, because if they have missed correcting something so obvious once, chances are they've done it again.

Haha a game made up of near a billion lines of code and they miss one piece, they may have missed more but so far just one that is damn good going.

It happens, obviously the testers missed this one and so did the developers.

They can't get everything 100% right, although they did with the PC and 360 version, then again with the horde of drooling PS3 fans killing for the franchise on the system, is it any wonder that they are rushing?

Not to mention they are also working on Bioshock 2 as we speak, which Ken Levine said himself in an interview, as soon as Bioshock has had a month on the shelf, they might think of a Bioshock 2. This was then backed-up a few months later with an article about the game having a franchise and maybe a movie.

Though yes from the screens, it looks crap but hey, I got the PC version

Maybe the PS3 can't handle Bioshock?
    • 2
Shadow of Death Oct 6, 08
Lol, that is bull. If the 360 can handle it, the PS3 should not have any trouble. But this all hinges on being a good quality port.

Poor ports = lots of graphical (and some gameplay) issues.

        Exactly

I was glad they were doing things the way they were doing. They wanted people to buy both versions, by changing the PS3 version and adding things and so forth. I wish more devs were like that, because it might help lower all this fanboy garbage because people will get both consoles and see that they both have their pros (and cons) . . . but if devs make great multiplatform games . . . and change them up between the consoles, then that = more money for them!

I've made a visit to the 2K forums and it looks like this Elizabeth hasn't done anything from the moment she said that " they will handle this ". Now don't get me wrong, Bioshock wasn't supposed to bring massive sales on the PS3 version, but if they won't do anything about it it won't sell at all. They will loose money and people won't trust them anymore.

      Krunal Oct 6, 08
People stopped trusting them when they released Civilisation Revolution. That game has been very poorly tested, in fact many owners of the game believe that they're more like Beta Testers than anything because the bugs in the game (mostly multiplayer bugs) make the game near enough unplayable. How it got past their own testing is very worrying.

Looking at the pictures posted in this article I actually think the PS3 one looks better. Am I missing something? do those photos show the missing textures?

Just to let everyone know: It's been found out that the so called " 360 " screenshot is actually the PC version on max. The 360 version is as blurry as the PS3 version. So the only thing 2K need to handle is the pixelated crap and the choppy framerate that everyone keeps talking about, even though I myself haven't noticed anything of the sort.
