3 days ago we worried about the DSi being region locked. Well, in a statement given to CVG, Nintendo has confirmed that the DSi will be region locked.

The region lock will only apply to future DLC and DSi specific games. You will still be able to play DS region free games, however.

Once it hits the market homebrew will change that- don't you all worry.

We can still get our JRPGs and whatnot.

Sigh. Still, for the sake of ease, I think I wont be importing as planned.

I'm still happy with my original silver, and chunky, DS, thank you very much.

I still love my imported black DS Phat but I wouldn't mind having a brighter screen and something a bit slimmer that fits in my pocket.

I really want to mod the DSi to be a brushed aluminum (black) but unfortunately I have no idea how to do such a thing. I think brushed aluminum would look absolutely teh sex on the DSi.

        No joke.

I still have it. It's huge. I like it.

        =D.

Yeah I still have my Phat too, and to be honest I think it does a pretty good job. Plus it has an amazing D-pad to play fighting games.

At any rate, I'm disappointed that the DSi will be region-locked. But I guess this is where my trusty DS Phat comes in handy. This and to play GBA games.

I said that cause you used the Thick smiley, which people know using smileys can be taken non serious or jokingly.

As long as there's still language settings I don't mind.

On that note are there still language settings? XD As in the DS itself can be in English (Like how on our DS we can change the language to English, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, ect)

Remember folks, that this applies ONLY to DSi-specific software. This isn't a region lock on all software.

As it has been stated, you will still be able to import DS software and play them on your DSi.

First Wii-gion locking, now DSi-gion locking. Do they even realise why people are importing their games? It's quicker (and cheaper) to get the American version. It's not as if the European version's "English" is usually any different anyway. If they'd sort the staggered release dates (and perhaps the "English" option) out for European games, European players wouldn't import.

Do you even realize that this only blocks DLC?

Which isn't that big of a deal. A similar system is employed on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. You need to set up foreign accounts in order to download content from another region for those consoles.

Yes, Akira EX, but that could quite a large amount of media that's blocked. If they again decide to release Japan-and-America-only content, that's going to frustrate people. Regardless, it's not exactly going to please people on this continent who dislike staggered release dates. Unless, of course, they sort it out.

That's already happening now on all major consoles and hardware.

Yes, it is, but most companies don't have massive numbers of people importing stuff anyway. Nintendo and its staggered release dates do.

Are there certain games for the DSi? The DS Lite did not have any games specifically for that system if I am correct.

    Still, I'm probably getting this...

I'm not. No Region Freedom, no sale.
