When ever the music starts to rise and intensify, you know something is coming up... Which kinda ruins the whole 'scaring you' part of movies, right? Well Dead Space wants to change that by using the silence to its advantage. Because when everything is all nice and quiet, you never expect scary as hell aliens to jump out of nowhere.
As we’ve seen in terrible American remakes of Japanese horror film classics (The Grudge, anyone?), it’s obvious that filmmakers always want to use music and sound effects to their advantage when attempting to scare the pants off its audience. However, after such banal usage in 99% of the horror films released throughout the years, it tends to become familiar. When the music swells in a horrifying tidal wave of strings and accompanying instrument, we’re all ready to jump in our seats, expecting to be afraid of whatever’s coming out onscreen.
The creators of Dead Space are looking to put these tactics to good use, once and for all, throwing in the spice of actual silence to instill fear and to get our blood pumping, rather than forcing music to do the job through the entirety of the game

The developers are really talented and they deserved all the acolades they receive. For an arrogant prick like me to change my opinion of EA is quite something. Skate was awesome too. I applaude EA for getting in there.
But doesn't it defeat the purpose to let people know that it works this way?
Now, those that read about this (which admittedly, wouldn't be everybody getting the game lol), will be on guard when it is quiet.
Silence would be subtle though, like you probably wouldn't notice right away. Something would just feel of, then you'd be like OH SHI-
