Blizzcon 08 is in swing and releasing details left right and center about all things Starcraft, Diablo and Warcraft. At a live panel earlier today focusing on Starcraft 2 some particular juicy details were released. The not so great news that 3 separate versions of Starcraft 2 would be sold, each with a expansive unique campaign featuring one of the races. And that a similar system would be used in Warcraft 4, which confirms the games existence.

9:14am : ...and if you thought you were missing out, each game will feature approx 26-30 missions if the player goes through and does everything available.

9:13am : Mission-wise
- more branching missions (including Easter Egg missions)
- the ending is set, but the middle has branches.

9:13am : So - the new story content:
More sets
More characters
More props (like the ingame jukebox)

9:12am : What does this mean?
Nothing changes for multiplayer or skirmish mode. All three races are fully implemented from the get go.
Each campaign will feel like an epic story - not a cliffhanger into the next one. They will each have separate arcs that have a clear start, middle, end - and you will feel like you've really finished *something* at the end of each game.
More content than we'd previously planned - many more Movies, Missions, etc.

9:10am : #3: Protoss: Legacy of the Void

9:10am : #2: Zerg: Heart of the Swarm - all about Kerrigan :)

9:10am : The first game to be released - Terrans: Wings of Liberty - all about Jim Raynor as a freedom fighter, trying to resolve his relationship with the Queen of Blades.

9:09am : ...and the winner is: STARCRAFT 2 TRILOGY

9:09am : ...and now, we're taking a vote on those options.

9:09am : Option A:
Simplify the campaign (more linear, less choice, less characters) - aka: giving up

Option B:
Make each campaign EPIC, but release each one as a separate product - aka: go big or go home

Option C:
Compromise in the middle, but delay the game greatly - aka: not really make anyone happy, or make anyone sad

<3 the Warcraft series. Though I never really got into WoW, Warcraft 1-3 is still played on my CPU from time to time. Can't wait for 4! ^^

Three versions of StarCraft? Bit disappointed with that. Diehard fans would want to get all versions.

Woot, Warcraft 4! I'm not so happy bout the fact that each campaign is going to have it's own seperate disks to be bought separately for Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 4. Kind of milking it a bit too much blizzard?

I'd say, but they know, and we know, that we'll buy them. Perhaps we'll get discounts for the other two campaigns after buying the full game.

Yeah maybe a buy 2 get the third one free discount? >_>

It is pretty stupid though i mean, don't they make enough money off of that soul sucking game WoW already? =>

So you'd think, but when you have money, you just want more of it I suppose. And they won't give discounts, only shops themselves will. All I can say is that they better not limit skirmish/online with it. Think about it, they could easily set it up so you'd have to buy each game to just be able to use each side. Right there your looking at a loss of $300-$400.

Well if Blizzard go and do that and try and make us pay just to be able to use each side, then they really can go *bleep* themselves =| thats just milking it.

BTW, you can use all 3 races online with any version of the game.

Do you guys realize that SC2's Terran campaign alone will have 30 missions? That's the same amount of missions that SC1 had in total. We are not getting less content for the money at all, they're simply releasing 3 full storylines without forcing the fans to wait 10 years for the next game. We can go way more in-depth with the races, have tons more of those awesome CG cutscenes that Blizzard is famous for AND each race's campaign will play COMPLETELY different from each other.

The game is in good hands, Dustin Browder knows his shit (he even considered cutting MBS for the sake of competitive gaming). He invited members of various Starcraft fan sites to Blizzard HQ and talk about issues with the game. Dustin really wants to make the best game(s) possible and that's exactly what he's doing.

That's an interesting perspective. I wonder if the price of each version will be slightly cheaper than a typical game, that might be a smart strategy in terms of copies for users who want to concentrate on multiplayer and who can buy a single copy for less money.
