Cliff Bleszinski doesn't want comparisons made between Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2. After all the Resistance 2 versus Gears 2 articles, the designer finally came out and told gamers he doesn't want a feud with Ted Price or Insomniac Studios.

The PS3 has an exclusive sci-fi shooter called Resistance 2 due on November 4th. The Xbox 360 has an exclusive sci-fi shooter called Gears of War 2 due on November 7th. Should you view the two as competitors? Gears of War 2 designer Cliff Bleszinski doesn't

    Meh
The fanboys are always looking for some kind of comparison argument.
If you ask me its pretty annoying either you play one or you play both.

I hate fanboys, I mean both will be really great games.

Though they don't know it, they are nothing but puppets really.

Good devs don't have to prove themselves in some sort of peeing (wanted to use the decent word instead) contest. That's why I like Insomniac. They make good games, and they've also complimented other devs saying they're friends with them and not trying to compete (also with Naughty Dog and such). They even go as far as to say that they want other devs to have some of their tools so they can help other devs make better games!

That's the way they should all be. Instead of TRYING to prove themselves through trash talking and competing . . . just SHOW it by making great games.

Ted Price is a visionary developer he doesn't think like other developers where as others qould rather have a mud slinging contest like chimpanzee's he wants to share, he is one of the few developers out there that would most likely want a unified developer made up of thousands of development teams making games of a set incredible standard for just one platform.

Well I don't know if I'd say he would want that. It seems too much of a monopoly and communistic. I'm sure he enjoys variety in the different game systems also. Now, yeah, Definitely I can see him doing all that for an incredible standard for games, but I'm sure he'd enjoy several platforms. . . at least the ones he sees can handle the standard.

Not at all, yes competition can boost productivity but it can also cause developer to rush, i know it may have been almsot 3 years ago but the Xbox 360 fiasco is one of the most high profile cases of competition gone bad. In gaming it is rarely ever good to compete i mean these days developers have stakes in lots of games being a success or failure, take Epic Games their engine is in like 40% of all games these days. Gaming wouldn't be beneficial these days if sharing or selling of assets didn't happen, competition doesn't work.

competition does work. wtf are you smoking?! Don't talk if your gonna BS yourself that competition has no place in games.

          No . . .
When devs focus more on competition, by focusing on their competitors and what they're doing and how they can get their own games into consumers' before them . . . when all that is what devs focus on instead of improving their games, it doesn't work.
That is what we see way too often. Devs become so caught up with looking at all the other devs and trying to out-do them, they shoot themselves in the foot because they neglect to improve on their games . . . and we get games that are not any different beside the plot lines and seldom make people say "Wow, now this is unique!"

So far, the only games I can say that for, are those produced by Devs who don't spend 60% or more of their time competing with other devs and consoles, and instead spend their time improving their games and getting involved with their fanbase to see what they want.

Ill be getting both, playing both, and passing both. Despite the fact that I WILL like one more than the other, im not going to make stupid little comparisons and blogs about it. The comparison of these two games is getting so silly. Bloody Resistance 2 has to deal with the stigma that it is "another FPS", and Gears of War 2 probably has some stigmas of its own.

    They will both be awesome!

I don't think most professionals SHOULD be fanboys. Otherwise, they'd spend all their time picking pointless fights over the tiniest details... instead of learning from each other and making awesome games for the rest of us.

Instead of being a little douche, shut up, play both of them, and have a good time.

Fanboys, seriosuly, grow the *bleep* up, and stop arguing over such pointless crap.

What's funny about this whole thing is that it's the fanboy mentality that drives the hardcore market. Cliffy is actually using reverse psychology, because everyone has been comparing the two games. This comment further drives that competition.

Non-fanboys are going to see this as a plea for peace, while fanboys on Sony's side will say Cliff is saying this because "Gears 2 will suck", and on the MS side they will say he's saying this because "Resistance 2 will suck".

It's still fanboyism...non-fanboys just don't see it that way, though.

Where do you get off telling yourself you know the insides and outsides of Cliffy B's mindset and thought? Show us your psychology certficate and I'll shut the hell up. How do you even know it is reverse psychology!?

Maybe, this once, we have a talented developer in the industry who wants to produce a stunning and immersive product for gamers. In the interviews and diaries I've watched, Cliffy certainly comes across that way. He could honestly mean what he says.

I love the mentality of some forum dwellers to mock the developers of the industry for making countless sequels and spinoffs for money spinning. Yet conversely, when 1 developer shows a little dignity and maturity within the industry, silly little message board surfers post their ideology on fanboyism and state hes using "reverse psychology".

I serously contest that people have a cup of *bleep* and enjoy the bloody games.
