Another day another mindless attack on videogames. Today's target is the game Saints Row 2, which the New York Police Union wants removed from shelves because you can steal, do drugs and kill police officers. Apart from the fact this would be censorship and in my opinion very wrong they also claim that the M rating is not accurate. That this game is too mature for 15-17 year olds. Hear that? Apparently these guys know better than the ESRB!

With Volition’s Saints Row 2 (PC, 360, PS3) hitting shelves today for console editions, it took virtually no time for the game to get condemned by the boys in blue–in particular, the police unions of New York City.

“New York’s powerful police unions say that a violent new video game called ‘Saints Row 2 is an abomination,” reports WPEC in New York, which was spotted by Kotaku. “In the game, the player controls a gang member who can steal, do drugs and kill as many characters as possible, including police officers.”

    Aren't M ratings for 17 and above?

Yes, and many retail outlets here in NYC do enforce no sales to minors for titles with an M rating or above... I've seen kids get turned down at the local EB, BestBuy and Gamestops... Don't know what else to say other than *sigh*...

Doesn't the M rating stand for "Minors Only"?...

As if anyone here expected this game not to get headlines from the NYC police.
