A teaser trailer for Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams was shown on the PS3 version of the game. And now Charles Shechbeck, one of the developers of the title, has come forward to add a little more fuel to the fire. The game is confusingly described as a prequel and a sequel at the same time and apparently the replica of Rapture is meant to represent something significant. Or perhaps not, there is a lot of vagueness there, as normal with a newly announced title.

BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams is part of a prequel and at the same time is a sequel, so you’re kind of close on the interpretation of the trailer. The rising replica of Rapture can represent something to do with this or something part of a bigger surprise that everyone has to wait and see to play. -2K Marin Developer Charles Shechbeck

A prequel and a sequel? Sounds like we've got ourselves a messy time adventure here! That or someone needs to work out what's going on, cause I can't get my head around how it's both unless it's a time based game.

The C&C3 expansion pack, Kane's Wrath, was both a prequel and a sequel. The first third of the expansion takes place before the main game, the middle third is in parallel, and the final third takes place after the main game.

So, with BioShock 2, they may be going back to the rise of Rapture and witnessing the events first-hand that caused it to collapse, which we see the aftermath of in the original. Then maybe we go beyond the original game, see what happens to the remains of Rapture, or perhaps someone on the surface discovers Rapture and tries to replicate it somewhere on the surface?

Whatever they've got planned, it's got my attention. BioShock may be a hard act to follow, but if they can create another stunning game with a few new twists I'll be very pleased.

Kane's Wrath is a bit different though. You were doing missions, not always in a FPS mode. Still, you have a point, anything is really possible I suppose.

So does that mean Back to the Future III was a prequel to the first two?

Anyway, from the way it seems, it looks like Bioshock 1 was a midquel to this game.

Why is Bioshock 2 only listed under 360 and PC? Isn't it obvious Bioshock 2 will be on PS3 as well?

    Update to the story, folks:

Editor’s Note: It appears that we received a bad tip from a source we still think of as trustworthy (that came through on a lot of information) and who gave out information under a false alias. Apologies to our audience as we were also misled on the tiny tidbit. But hey, that’s the bump in journalism that happens time to time and we have to move on.

So this basically means its not a prequel and a sequel then?
