Well this is quite weird. Never have we heard of anything like this. In the soundtrack it was found that their was Qur'an expressions and because they had to slightly delay the game. It won't be releasing on the 24th but sometime after. Hopefully it won't be to long.

SCEE has just confirmed that LittleBigPlanet has slipped because “the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an” in one of the licensed background tracks, but has not supplied a new release date.

The game was previously scheduled for an October 24 release.

VG247 has learned that the game is already at retail in both the UK and other European countries.

Heavy speculation has surrounded a slip this afternoon.

Sony just issued a statement on the matter:

During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an. We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused.

We’ll confirm the new launch date shortly.

It’s unclear at the moment if this means the game is to be completely recalled.

    Here are the lyrics;
    quote
    The words are:

1- In the 18th second: "كل نفس ذائقة الموت" ("kollo nafsin tha'iqatol mawt", literally: 'Every soul shall have the taste of death').

2- Almost immediately after, in the 27th second: "كل من عليها فان" ("kollo man alaiha fan", literally: 'All that is on earth will perish').

Seriously, no one would have noticed that if they haven't mentioned it today.

Yup, definitely came out of the Qur'an.

On a side note: Wasn't the universal spelling changed to the Koran though?

Officially it's Qur'an, Koran is the product of transliteration.

So what, a muslim religion has the copyright to a string of letters that were used to form words which were used to form sentences.

Ridiculousness of that aside - why is this causing such a delay

    This is bull shit.

That's pretty funny -- the Google Ad that popped up for me right now when reading this, was an ad for singlemuslim.com, "the world's largest muslim introduction agency."

From what I've read; The song was sang by a Muslim, so what seems to be the big deal???

People quote the Bible on a daily basis- but that is never grounds for a recall/delay.

Different cultures and religions share different beliefs..

Quoting it or reading it is fine and encouraged by them, they just don't want it mixed with music. I'm not sure why on that part.

        quote
Instrumental music was forbidden by the orthodox, so the "vocal" music took place in the form of "recitation" of the Koran

Seems counter productive, and hypocritical if you asked me.

You can actually purchase Holy Koran CDs on Amazon.

Yeah, the voice is still an instrument..I guess since it's used also to speak and they consider speaking fine, there's a double standard.

          Why was it forbidden though?

Yeah, the song itself that was used is on MySpace I think, or at least similar songs by the same artist. Bizarre.

It doesn't make a bit of sense, how are they justified in pulling the songs out in the first place? I don't see the reason or the logic behind it.

@Deathsythe: All they said was "We Muslims consider the mixing of music and words from our Holy Quran deeply offending." (Source)

Speaking with my Muslim friend, he says "well music is kinda considered bad in our religion, so i guess the process of pairing up those two things is bad." He never really got an answer as to why music is considered bad for them though, except his Mom once said they think music leads to erotic thoughts. Haha.
And as you may know, Islam is pretty darn strict in those matters.
This is similar to Christianity, actually. Same reason parents in Western culture didn't want their kids listening to Led Zeppelin back when..

So in short, I guess LittleBigPlanet will make you want to have sex and they don't want that.

ok seriously what he hell is wrong with this? those words are true. everything does die sooner or later. who cares what religious book says them.

I think its more the fact that the music is in a videogame. Isn't there something about videogames being wrong in their religion? Because it imitates life and takes glory away from Allah?

I think I may recall hearing something like that too. Still, the dude didn't mention anything about video games, just music.

Man, you guys should (or maybe not) head over to the LBP forum. Been there all day today and I have to say that after probably adding about 100+ posts to my account . . . I've got a headache from the news tornado that hit that place.

I have no problem with this. Religion is sensitive in the present day, and I'm glad they're changing something that could be potentially offensive to those who follow the Koran.

    Ameer Oct 18, 08
Why are we blaming Islam for this? Anyone with half a brain would have realised that this sort of reaction would be inevitable. The blame should be with the department who licensed the music without actually checking the content of those songs.

I agree, they should have known about this prior to using the music.

Sucks for the people hoping to get the game on the 24.

    quote
It is a very ignorant and misguided attitude to percieve music as a form of pleasure and passing of time, since the messages of today`s music follow a general theme of love, fornication, drugs and freedom.

We find that the whole world is obsessed with the kufr idea of freedom, i.e. freedom of speech, freedom of movement, etc. In modern schools and universities, we observe independence, free expression and secular thinking being encouraged. This idea of freedom, “ It`s my life, I`ll do what I want” is a predominant, underlying theme of today`s music. It is being used as a means for drilling those modern ideologies that are totally contrary to Islamic Shariah and values, into the minds of Muslims.

One should abstain from evil audacities such as listening to music and encourage others to do the same too.
What the *bleep*, man! They're basically just blatantly saying "freedom is bad, stay away from it". I'm so glad I'm not Muslim. Haha, seriously.

I actually was reading through their website and I found myself disagreeing with a lot of things they were saying. And seeing as im a muslim too it seems to me like they are very sunni. Nothing againts sunni's I just percieved that way by the view points of the author of the website. Because some of the things I read on that website I would think is quite false.

I'm a Sunni too LPF, and the simple fact is that music is haram. There's debate over nasheed, but little doubt on the topic of music. I'll gladly link less random sites if you need the proof.

Yes I know that. But when I was replying to Chautemoc about what he quoted not, not about the topic about music. I have heard the same thing about music from shia scholars as well.
