GamePro reports on the "The 52 Most Important Video Games of All Time" Now, obviously this is in their own opinion. Some of the titles there I don't feel are the most important but hey, to each their own.

Some of the games on the list include:
The Legend of Zelda (#3)
GoldenEye 007 (#9)
World of WarCraft (#4)
Half Life (#27)

Yes, good ol' Wolfenstein. They have Ultima Online and ET...ET! the game that's impossible to beat. It is good that they still kept the classics in mind while making the list.

Oh my oh my, Diablo II should deserve a higher place than #36
That's my very first video game.
I miss my good old sorceress.

Severely flawed list. Half life was far more important than that
    As was FF7

(Diablo was my first game xD)

GTAIII at number 1? Never saw that coming.

But it's a good list overall.

Half Life 1 revolutionized several aspects of gaming, including 3d sound (sound that had queues based on your relative position to the enemy), totally immersive story line, and many scripted events. Unreal 1 also did the same thing with its graphics and scripted events, plus its enemy AI (enemies that could dodge and tried to flank your position), plus totally immersive story and amazing use of music and using a very wide range of environs. I think those two games deserve really high positions.

I don't agree with a lot of the choices (classifying Resident Evil 4 as survival horror, for example), but I did see the reasoning behind putting GTA III at the top of the list.

    "37. Devil May Cry
What may go down as the PlayStation 2's first true killer app, Devil May Cry's epic size and scope served the industry's game designers as a reminder that the imagination-instead of technology-is the true frontier. Its influence is obvious: without Devil May Cry, games like Ninja Gaiden and God of War simply would not exist"

Who wrote this? I love the DMC series as much as the next gamer but whoever wrote this piece has their facts severely screwed up. Ninja Gaiden premiered in arcades and on the NES many years before the first DMC came out and whats more, pioneered much of the formula of gameplay that came to be featured in DMC. I would say that without Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry might not exist. Ninja Gaiden should have been in this spot instead.

The article says Boba Fatt, who if I recall is a long time editor of GamePro. Then again, that could just be a title which has been held by many people. But yea, feel free to shoot them off an email telling them so. If you do, let us know their reply
