Thanks to the popularity of video games, and Nitendo being quite innovative, the DS and Wii have boosted Nintendo's profits of 77%. So far, Nintendo DS has sold 40 million units, and the Wii has sold 5.84. Next year, Nintendo expects to sell 14 million Wii consoles and 22 million DS systems, along with tons of games. Go Nintendo! =)

Nintendo of Japan has announced that profits in the last financial year have jumped by a staggering 77% thanks to strong sales of both the Nintendo DS and Wii. Nintendo reported a group net profit of 174.29 billion Yen ($1.47 billion) in the last fiscal year, a huge profit rise 98.38 billion yen compared to a year earlier. Sales of consoles, particularly the DS and Wii, rose by 90% to 966.53 billion Yen ($8.13 billion), compared to 509.25 billion Yen for the same period last year.

More than 23 million DS systems were sold, along with 123m games. Since its release in 2004, the DS has sold 40m units worldwide. Meanwhile, although it was only released at the end of 2006, the Wii put in a strong showing, selling 5.84m units worldwide and 29m games.

    That's pretty good for both consoles. The DS is looking very strong right now and probably will continue to be strong till they make a new handheld. I'm also glad that the Wii is doing so well.

    Considering the popularity of the DS along with strong worldwide Wii sales it isn't all that surprissing and with pokemon just out and lots of other good games on the way for the DS it seems set to continue. I remember reading somewhere that the DS "prints money", seems pretty much true:P.
