Remember that article I put up a couple days ago about a kid who ran away from home because his parents banned him from playing Call of Duty 4? Well Microsoft Canada heard about this and are now offering a $25,000 reward for finding the missing boy.

Notice: Please, don't all be assholes about this. Don't post comments like "he deserves it" or crap like that please. Thanks!

...To help the family of course.

I wonder if he even deserves to be found. Well i'm not around his place so you can count me out. He might be already dead anyways... i wonder if the reward goes also for the guy who finds his corpse.

Is it just me or does it sound like Jack is trying to make it sound like gaming is an addiction again?

Anyway, I'm sure that a 25k reward is going to motivate more people to help. I know it would motivate me. And who says Microsoft doesn't care? After the kid is found though, he totally deserves having CoD4 and his console sold. You simply don't pull this shit. Never, end of story.

Despite the harsh psychological damage he has probably inflicted on friends and family, I truly do hope they find the kid! It would be a waste of a good life and the parents would probably never recover fully. Hope its a good outcome.

I, too, hope that he's found and all is well. His running away for . . . well any reason beside abuse, is absolutely ridiculous and I hope he realizes how lucky he is to have family that cares!

If I lived in Alberta then I would go look for him. I heard on the radio that he was missing since thanksgiving, and could have been lured by an online person.

    Hope they find him.

What a waste of $25k. His running away over being banned from COD4 is insulting to the people who've been forced to leave their homes through no fault of there own.

There's opinions, and then there's just straight out bullshit with no explanation. Makes me wonder, would Sony get this reaction if they were the ones to offer? I wouldn't bet on it.

I say that becuase they're giving out money making it look like it's not their fault, and it isn't, but people will blame them for it.

Its no wonder big businesses and corporate entities dont bother with too much charity or looking after the consumer. Self-Centered Pricks like BIG A2 just mock them.

Good on Microsoft. And we need thumbs down back. Thumbs down added to a healthy debate. Im sure we are all mature enough to use it accordingly.

Too bad the new thumb system won't happen til tek finishes his current project, which could be who knows when.
Then again the thumbs down got removed due to abuse, hopefully this new system limits it.

Im not entirely sure why MS is giving out 25k for finding the kid though. I thought the last article stated he ran away to cool off or something.

Steve, the father asked on TV if the company could do something. At the very least it's a good publicity stunt for them. I'd like to think though that Microsoft actually cares though. That's my opinion.

I've been quite on this whole "the kid deserves it" bullshit. But now I'm going to speak my mind.

Grow the hell up you idiots. Is it stupid to run away because of being banned from game? yes it is.But your comments show that you people are just as stupid. He's a damn child for christ sake.Kids do the stupidest things. But to be honest, adults at times do things just as stupid.

Why do you think non gamers think gamers are blood thirsty savages? With stupid comments like you idiots have been posting, it's no wonder they think that way.

I REALLY hope they find this kid ok.I can't even begin to imagine how I would feel if my child ran away and was never seen alive again. For all you people know, this could be the case.

So do people over the age of 18, but do they always do what's right? No

The point is, people are being very cold hearted towards a kid who did something stupid. As if to say that adults never do anything stupid.
      • 0
        HisServant77 Oct 31, 08
I agree that the kid did something VERY . . . well stupid. There's no reason ever to run away unless it's because of being abused! Many kids and teens (heck, even adults!) tend to never realize how good they actually have it!

That being said, I do really hope they find the kid. Like you said, if it were my kid I'd be so upset that I'd have to work hard to even just be useful and not fall apart! I am still hoping and praying that they find the kid. Even better, if the kid just walks into the house soon, realizing the mistake he made, and running into the arms of a family that cares so much about him.
  • 0
    Zaek Oct 26, 08
Kids and teens just react fast and don't think about their decisions most of time. Let's just hope the kid is safe as well as his family.

We don't even know for sure if he ran or not.

And even if he did, it's been awhile who's to say he was just gonna do it for 3 days but something happened??

No kid would stay out THAT long, for such a thing.

Did it ever occurred that he could've hitch-hiked??

God knows if he's even alive, or if some pedophile took him.

We don't know if he's okay or even if he's still alive, so don't say he deserves it when it could clearly not have been his fault.

I know the notice, and I'm going to be an ass anyways: he doesn't deserve any praise. Any eight year old would throw a hissy fit about losing gaming privileges. Some might go so far as to run away from home. This kid is fifteen years old, and he'd ran away from his loving family who's fed him for the past one and a half decades out of their own pockets and provided him with video games in the first place. Not only should he be intelligent enough to regard the fact that he'd get it back at some point, but also be grateful enough he was given such an item in the first place.

Now he's flushing valuable money, time, and emotions down the toilet with the rest of his shit. The only way I could feel sorry for him is to think about who's abducted him - his backpack and other remnants have been discovered - and what they're doing to him. Of course, I do that to any victim of abduction. All I can say is, I feel sorry for the family, but no compassion for that idiot Brandon Crisp.

How the hell does he have a point?...A company rewards $25,000 to help find a child, and they are seen like glory-hoggers? Swell. The bigger picture here is that this story will probably have a happy ending with help from this gesture.

Just as a side note, it appears to be $25,000 Canadian, which only comes out to $19,400 USD.

Needless to say, a noble gesture regardless.

I hate to be such a cynic, but the sad truth is that this story only got picked up in the news media because of the Call of Duty 4 angle.

In 2007 there were 60,582 kids missing in Canada. Source -=> http://www.ourmissingchildren.gc.ca/omc/about/stats_e.htm

Microsoft is only offering money for this one particular missing child because they want to head off negative publicity regarding the Xbox. It isn't just because they are nice.

I hope he turns up safe + sound. Hopefully many of the other 60,000+ missing kids last year turned out safe as well.

thats just how it is. I feel bad for the boy, too.
  • 1
    dwg14390 Oct 29, 08
If he did run away for being a very spoiled brat, at the very most he deserved to be found the next day (maybe 2) hungry with a scab on his knee.

NO kid deserves to be gone this long. Who knows if he really ran?? Who knows where he ended up or is even still breathing?? So to all who says he deserves it why don't you shove it??
  • 0
    RabidChinaGirl Oct 30, 08
Funny. I was out of the country for a couple of weeks, and while I was overseas, I actually thought about this kid on one occasion. Forgot why. Then, I come home and check GG to see he's still missing.

As Kevin said, we only notice this because of the video game angle. Otherwise, there are countless other kids out there who go missing and are honestly never found. I think that must be worse than if you learned your child died... no closure, and all.
