It seems IGN edited out a mention of a big bug they found in the PS3 version of Fallout 3 that causes the game to crash. They haven't said what made them take out the mention of the bug from their review.

It is fairly uncommon for a review of a game to be edited after its publication without any notification being made of these edits.

Such was the case today in IGN's review of Fallout 3. They chopped up a paragraph fairly well, without stating their reasoning for doing so. Could it have been a complaint from someone from Bethesda that caused the truncation of the paragraph? Or was it merely because the details in the original review were inaccurate?

We are not sure. Here is the original paragraph from the review, and then the replacement paragraph:

You can read the missing paragraph if you 'go to source'

ya i was complaining about this issue. if turning of notifications fixes it though, then it doesnt seem like patching it would be too hard.

Sounds like they took it out due to it being a load of bullshit. Which is good.

Yeah, I'm sure they just made it up.

When stuff like this happens it either the case someone posted incorrect statements, or similar to the whole Gamespot Kane and Lynch Fiasco. Either way someone either took it down for being incorrect or the company making the game took some action.

Kim Jong Il Oct 30, 08
Why would they put it in there in the first place if it was incorrect?

Oh, and how is this like the "Gamespot Kane and Lynch Fiasco"?

Cause there was a video review which was very harsh towards the game which was taken out of the site due the request by the company incharge of the game(I forgot the name). Since this was a part of the review I can only assume something similar happened here.

As for your first question, how the hell should I know why they put a false statement about bugs. IGN and Gamespot has been known to talk shit to the PS version of games in the last several years.

Oh yeah, they talk shit about PS3 version, except for all the times when they don't.

          *facepalm*

Red I said PS games, not just PS3 games. Also you remember how both sites rates the PS version lower in scores incomparison to the 360 right?
        • 1
          Red 9 Oct 30, 08
Maybe they do that because they are inferior? You gotta remember, some devs just don't know how to work the PS3 like someone such as Naughty Dog.

Do you mean the review that's still on Gamespot's Kane and Lynch page?

And you still haven't explained how the two situations are similar. One is about a review being edited, the other is about someone allegedly being fired/leaving the company. I don't see how they're related.

OH noez they rated teh ps3 version 0.3 lower than the 360 version!

wtf? they know nothing and are major fanbots and get payed by MS, I am never trusting them again >=(

Seeing how the person above has complained about one of the bugs mentioned, isn't it the case that, it's NOT a load of bullshit?

    I did explain it actually.

Which means the guy said something he shouldn't have in the REVIEW OF THE GAME(which started the whole controversy that led them firing him). Just like this was apart of the REVIEW of FALLOUT 3. Which means most likely it was a mistake and someone didn't review the game properly or it was requested by the company to take it off being false. Its either one or the other for the reason of them taking it off. Which means its probably similar.

@Red, no thats incorrect. We've had this discussion before on the PS3 forums. Seeker and Volacide(if he was still around) would probably vouch for that.

I remember volacide. Still don't understand why they kicked him off...

And Bethesda is in charge of Fallout 3.

Riiiight, so because they edited the review it's like the "Kane and Lynch fiasco"?

      Right, ok.

I kinda see his point though, A section of the review that drew the game in a bad light was requested to be removed by the games creator as to make the game look better.

I could actually see IGN doing that.
        • 0
Kim Jong Il Oct 30, 08
Bethesda asked them to remove it? The article said it was for an unknown reason.

Yes, Its just one of the theories.

Oh, it's a theory... presumably there's some logical thought behind it then?

come on you have the see where hes coming from IGN wouldn't just take it down for no reason...
they must have lied. I dont think bethesda told them to take it down because its something consumers need to see

Kim Jong Il Oct 30, 08
IGN wouldn't just put it up for no reason either.

        Krunal Oct 31, 08
Honestly, it's nothing as bad as the Kane and Lynch fiasco, the only thing is, we need to understand is whether or not the paragraph was removed due to it being inaccurate or whether they come under pressure from the developers/publishers.

Or maybe the answer is very simple- that the glitch which IGN noticed was a error with the PS3 they were using, and was not actually a glitch.

      kspiess* Oct 30, 08
Something like this is completely understandable.

But I just think that if you change your reviews at all, it is good honest practice to put up a note saying "This is what we changed blah blah, because of blah blah."

That's what happens anyways in hardware reviews.

    Lord_80 Oct 30, 08
I'll be playing this game offline anyways, for 360 nonetheless. So I should have no problems.

    streetcarp81 Oct 30, 08
i was going to buy this game for ps3, because i wanted to start building up my ps3 collection which is slim compared to my 360 collection, but after reading all the reviews from ign, gamespot, etc etc every site said the ps3 version was inferior. i don't think every site hates the ps3. actually most people don't care about the fanboys that talk crap about other consoles. and final blade you say some of the most ridiculous things.

If it's better for 360, get in on 360. It's not as if the PS3 is lacking quality titles this holiday.
