Nintendo plans to push 45 titles for the Nintendo Wii by the end of summer. The company also wants to sell more than 300,000,000 software units in the Wii's lifetime.

During a press conference in Tokyo, Japan, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata discussed Wii shortages and plans for a production increase, in addition to revealing the number of first-party Wii games in development.

Nintendo reached original projections to sell six million Wii hardware units by the end of its 2007 fiscal year (March 31), despite shortages. The company now expects to sell 14 million units by the closure of its next fiscal year, ending March 31, 2008. Iwata stated that an increase in worldwide production would occur next month, though he did not specify how much production would actually be raised.

"We must do our best to fix this abnormal lack of stock," Iwata admitted. "We have not been able to properly foresee demand. We will do our best to offer the machine for those who are waiting."

Iwata also mentioned that 45 first-party Wii titles are currently in development, and Nintendo will begin talking about them towards the end of the summer. According to the Iwata, many of those titles are "real gamer games" like Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3. In tandem with third-party titles, Nintendo aims to sell 300,000,000 software units during Wii's lifetime.

Possibility of getting a release date on Brawl anyone?

45 first part games sounds like there could be a chance for it.

That's a lot. Especially for all first party. I'm guessing there will be a lot of gimmick games mixed in with the average amount of hardcore games.

I have a feeling that almost all of them are gonna be gimmick games, I hope that I am wrong though.
