Fable II may have sold a lot of copies on the first week, but Fallout 3 is the true star in Britain's gaming scene this week -- it managed to sell more copies in it's first week than a number of big named titles such as Oblivion, not to mention the rest of it's franchise combined, ever managed!

In Britain, Fallout 3's first week sales were 57% higher than those of Oblivion. Additionally, the sales outnumber those of every previous Fallout game, including spin-offs such as Tactics, combined. 55% of copies were sold to Xbox 360 owners, 28% to Sony sorts, and 17% to the PC crowd.

The launch also managed to dethrone Fable II; Quantum of Solace: The Game debuted at number seven, while Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 appeared at fifteen.

Yeah I was reading about this yesterday.....it's depressing, honestly. Well, maybe not, I dont know. But I dont really understand why people are so obsessed with it if most of them haven't played the originals? Anyway, I hope it sells more copies of the first two games...and nothing against this one, by the way..

I'm betting the big reason for the interest from the other fans comes from it's connections to Bethesda and the hype previous Fallout players have given the game. Most people are coming in to that game bearing expectations because of where the roots of the game are coming from, since it is using the same engines that Oblivion did.

Oh yes, Oblivion, of course. Makes sense. I had that in my head but forgot about it hehe. Well, all good then! And if it brings more people to the series, I'm all for it.

Couple of words: Resident Evil 4

Though in this case, RE4 never was able to outsell RE2 (and RE1, I think).

This is fantastic news! Chaut, I think that people with no attachment to the awesome first two PC games in the franchise are still appreciating Fallout 3 because of the richness of its world, strength of story and gameplay, and well - it stands pretty strongly on their own and does a great job of introducing newcomers to the Fallout mythos.

FANTASTIC NEWS! After Bethsoft takes their much needed break, time to get to work on the DLC for Fallout 3, maybe helping out the PC mod community with some tools, and more importantly (IMHO) shelf the played out fantasy world of Elder Scrolls and start pre-production work on Fallout 4!

All the while PS3 owners getting shafted without DLC, and a considerably buggy version...it's a kick in the arse, really.

I'll say what I've said in most other Fallout 3 related articles.

Fallout 3 deserves whatever awards and praises that come its way. Fantastic and sublime, unique from start to finish and I hope other developers consider it as a measure of what their games need to aspire to be.

It isn't a surprise to me to hear about this. Many Fallout fans had jabbed at Fallout 3 yet their curiousity to see what has been done gets the best of them. Combine this with the fact you don't have to play the other Fallout games, meaning you can walk straight in with no knowledge of lore at all, along with the Elder Scrolls and Bethesda Softwork fans. Then yes you can see why Fallout 3 has sold so well.

Not only that but it is a great game, just wished people would get past the judgement of "Oblivion with guns"
