No more then 3 weeks in and Littlebigplanet is already having troubles. It seems that moderators are deleting levels which they believe violate the copyright agreement. It is quite ridiculous as some levels that are created from an authors favourite game are being deleted without warning. Get this, even a level based on the ps3 was deleted. All that hard work wasted.

If you're a big fan of user levels in LittleBigPlanet, the advice of the day seems to be this -- don't get too attached to them. Reports have been coming in of levels being "moderated" without warning. That's a polite way of saying they're getting deleted, and users are not being given the courtesy of an explanation.

The main issue seems to be over copyrighted material -- which kind of cuts the scope of what players can do in half, really. Levels based on Metal Gear Solid or Sonic the Hedgehog are being taken down, even if they merely contain a few items based upon the IP. Once a level is deleted, you can't even just take out the offending items and republish. The level's gone, and you have to start over from scratch. Great news for people who spent an hour or so crafting something.

Yeah I heard about this, I really think they should be more lenient about this, or at least more consistent. Hasn't that Mirror's Edge level been at the top for ages?

*bleep*ing pathetic whats the point in having the feature i mean everything infringes something else, personally i see nothing wrong with parody aslong as it is not malicious... Atleast give them a warning perhaps a week to change the offending content in the level and re-publish.

like you guys i don't see why they have to delete levels. I mean they are not making a profit off of them. If anything, the creators would be sued. But what major gaming company is going to sue over some kid who probably is even 18. Hell its an E game, you probably have little 11 year olds making mario levels.

But seriously, they never delete the giant Mega Man heads people make. One of them was even an iPod!

what a complete and utterly stupid mistake by these f*ggots. You should be able to make anything you want.

Thats ridiculous! What if someone based a level on greek myth and the level happened to be called GoW or something similar? Obviously thats too convenient but still. What if MM start deleting levels they think are copies but the maker thought it was original? Thats stupid.

    JacqueseVonRIP Nov 9, 08
Also, why are people able to get costumes based on characters from other games but not base levels on them? Thats just plain stupid.

    Koloth Nov 9, 08
No, you can not make anything you want. There are copyright laws in place for a reason. Now some of these deletions might be questionable but that's not really up to us. The moderators have to respect the copyright holders. Especially if they actually lodge a complaint.

As for the costumes the fact of the matter is MM is the only one that can make them AND they get licensing rights from the copyright holders. I doubt very much that the users have licensing agreements.

I made a level called Super Maze. It dealt with flying through a line cut through dark matter. It had nothing to do with anything. There was no offensive material. It actually was hearted by a few people. It got deleted.

    Koloth:

But the thing is nobody is making money off of them!!!

There making mario levels, and sonic levels for pure fun. If there not making a profit trying to sell them (which I don't even think is possible) then there not doing anything wrong!!

Even EA doesn't delete stuff thats an exact copy of something else, (like the star wars tie fighters and such)

If anything the moderators should let them do what they want (as long as it's not offensive or pornographic) and not delete levels simply because there "ripped off".

Little Big Planet or Little Big Problem?
Oh and by the way the title of the game itself is contradiction. I mean you can't have a little but big planet at the same time. Its either or. Idk maybe im reading to much into it, but it seems the title isn't correct.

Well it just goes to show that you're limited to your own imagination to make levels.

Uh, are you really complaining about the oxymoron of the game title?

Not really no. I was pointing it out.
Which im sure others knew already, but as I said im probably reading to much into it.

Honestly, I was half considering getting this game to truly have some parody fun and whatnot, but with this going on there really is no point. They may have the right to instantly delete levels made by people without reason but it sure as hell isn't ethical. By doing this, Media Molecule truly is dooming themselves badly. This is meant to be practically their biggest title, for them and for Sony. All their doing is alienating people from playing.

    Edit: Fixed my mistake.

Sony? Why Sony? It's Media Molecule and their idiotic moderators that are doing this not Sony, i mean why would they be deleting content in a game they never made on servers they don't own? They aren't it's the games creator that is doing all this and killing their own creation.

If this is such a problem maybe just maybe they should have thought about this more, maybe by never releasing this game... I mean it truly is a rags to riches tale, 2 years ago some plucky developers created this game out of blocks and shapes in 8 hours in time to show at E3, 2 years later they had a working version. Somehow i don't think they ever thought about copyright, everyone else did even me. I wanted to make a Gears of War inspired level but i knew it would hit a brick wall eventually, Media Molecule could quite simply be going into game suicide very fast.

I think a lot of people are forgetting that MM doesn't go through the hundreds of thousands of levels and delete/moderate them. They rely heavily on USER MODERATION! People use the GRIEF feature to report them. Then the level is automatically placed offline, and no later than 24 hours MM checks into them to see if the GRIEF was warranted or if it was just someone being . . . a "grief monger."

In any case, only those which deserve to be moderated get pulled. A lot of people mistake the 24 hour period of Awaiting moderation as automatically being deleted. So the numbers are highly inflated. What is worse, is that the search features and the online userface is not the greatest. It's hard to find levels. I've actually heard this or that level has been deleted, and then I'm playing that level a few hours later. But because other people couldn't seem to find it, they automatically yell "CENSORSHIP!" "IT'S BEEN DELETED!!!"

(And now watch as my comment is overlooked and people continue talking )
    EDITED:
Just found an official response that reiterates what I said about the level numbers being exaggerated, as well as sheds light on it all. Posted it on GG, so go look

Well, Dragon, they don't delete levels that aren't uploaded to their servers. You can have any level you want, on your PS3. However, the moment you upload to their servers for public viewing, you have to abide by their rules there
