Within the past several years, Square Enix has been on the ball with remakes of their classic Final Fantasy games. And rumors of a remake for the huge and popular Final Fantasy 7 have been been buzzing around the net.
Square Enix president Yoichi Wada explains how there has been a remake boom lately, "The price of games is high, and consumers tend to be wary of buying games they are unfamiliar with".
That's an interesting reason for the increase of remake talk, but SE fans hope they don't only focus on remakes and start making some fantastic new FF games. Hopefully Final Fantasy 13 and Final Fantasy Versus 13 will be the games to bring back the greatness of FF games, which many fans believe seemed to have dulled since Final Fantasy 10.
We've been seeing a lot of remakes lately, and they're actually quite welcome. For publishers, it's a gold mine - they're low risk, but have high returns. For veteran gamers, playing a classic in souped up engines is a great experience. For new gamers, they get to appreciate the old games in their remade glory.
With the current situation of the gaming industry - lay-offs and realignments here and there - Square Enix president Yoichi Wada explains how there came to be a remake boom. "The price of games is high, and consumers tend to be wary of buying games they are unfamiliar with," he points out. With unfamiliarity, gamers would be inclined to buying remakes of successful, tried-and-tested titles, as opposed to taking a gamble at a new one.

It was different, IMO, but in a good way(for me, at least).
Seriously Square has become just shittier since they merged with Enix. They aren't even making any good games anymore. Just either making a whatever RPG or cashing in on old titles by making remakes or crappy sequels.
What Wada says makes sense. Remakes can really only help. I would say it brings in those people who feel graphics are important. Since they won't even touch the older FF games unless they are updated.
Another one of my noob mistakes.
Anyway I've played alot of FF games, and while FF7 was my first FF and RPG, I do love FF10 as much as 7 and 8. People must be crazy to think FF10 sucked. It had an engrossing storyline, awesome old time battle system with a new feature to swap players in battle. I personally loved the Sphere Grid. While some hate it as much as the License Grid, I just personally loved the Sphere Grid. But still materia in FF7 is the best of all time for me. FF10 for me is the last best one. No offense to FF12, it was a great looking game it just didn't have the makings of a Final FANTASY game.
Also I agree with Neto with his remake statement and how it can only help.
And I love FF10. FF10 was amazing for me. Its the Final Fantasy I have poured most of my hours into. There was nothing quite like it. Yuna was FANTASTIC!, and here vunerability and shyness made for riveting story. All other characters were well developed and even Tidus had his good moments. It was a little harder than other titles which was refreshing, and had what I consider to be one of the most scary and intimidating villans of all time, Seymour.
And once again, I have to agree with Final Blade. FF12 felt different. Difference is all good and well, but I want improvement. It felt like an MMO, except noone else could join in, and the motivation and storyline was pretty poor in my opinion. But the title was saved by Balthier, my favourite character ever!
I don't want a sequel of FF8, just a remake. Look what happened when they tried to make a sequel for FF7? We get DoC which was piss poor, shooter RPG, and quite frankly having Vincent as the only playable character sucked major balls. And now people want the sequel for DoC due to the ending which is BS.
Just make the FF7 remake and move on. Thats all I care about.
Dirge of Cerberus was horrible! That, and before crisis, totally shamed the compliation. I could handle the sequel movie; albeit It needed to be done a little better. Crisis Core was excellent though. True character and charm that game had.
I guess I could tolerate an FF7 remake. Want the FF13 titles worked and polished on to the extreme! I want a return to form for the series.
If they remake FF7, there is a good chance for FF8 and FF9 to get the same treatment as well. That is the only reason why I am pulling for a FF7 remake to be honest
2-6 were alright but nothing stellar. I thought 7 was really rather boring, when it came right down to it I just didn't care about the characters at all. 9 was a bit to cutesy but at least the characters were interesting and likable. 10 was pretty decent though. And I don't know what they were thinking with 11 and 12.
@Koloth - Final Fantasy 11 was a online MMO. That was the whole point in the game. It had nothing to do with the others. Hell it wasn't even offline game. That was the problem with FF12, they made the offline too similar to a online MMO. If 12 was a online MMO, i'd bet money there wouldn't be haters with the game.
I'm just glad FF13 is going back towards something more like the ATB systems of old. I don't want my Final Fantasies to be more "actiony". That was one of the main reasons I hated FF Legends.
They should also learn to listen to their audience. If we wanted more action we wouldn't be buying turn based RPGs. That's one of the things I hate obout big companies. They try and perdict the rhythm of the market rather than catering to their core market. You want big sales then give us more of what we are buying the most of. Don't try and lead us where you think we will follow. After all they say you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. Well FF11 and 12 a lot of us weren't drinking.
