Epic Games' President Mike Capps has suggested the idea that game developers, in order to curb the sales of secondhand games, start making the endings of games downloadable content, saying "If you want to fight the final boss you go online and pay USD 20, but if you bought the retail version you got it for free".

In what can only be described as the worst idea ever, Epic Games’ Michael Capps let slip one of the many ideas developers are passing around to try and curb people from buying used games. "...If you want to fight the final boss you go online and pay USD 20, but if you bought the retail version you got it for free".

You're about to beat the final boss and then a message appears "to beat this boss you must buy it XBL or PSN"

that just makes me think hes a stingy bastard

Wait, He's saying you'd only have to buy the ending if you bought the game second hand? But if you buy the retail version you get the ending for free?

Well . . . That sounds alright, but . . . No thanks. I'd rather not stifle our right to sell what we own to others, and buy other people's things they are selling. We shouldn't be forced to buy ONLY from stores or ONLY from one marketplace.

Ridiculous, the majority of my games are second hand, and what say does he have anyway... dumbass.

      Epic Games' President,

I'm pretty sure he has a say on what Epic do with their games.

Also this article is twisted, It says he has "I've talked to some developers who are saying 'If you want to fight the final boss you go online and pay USD 20, but if you bought the retail version you got it for free"

      It isn't all his idea.

Ok thats fine. So what of those who cannot connect to XBL or PSN? Those without access for their console to be put online? I guess they will just settle for 20 games which are incomplete.

    What an incompetent.

If they don't want Gamestop selling used games then stop shipping to Gamestop. Lower the prices on games. Most PC games now force you to have online access its no longer a choice. Now when you buy a game like HL2 it was only 80% complete on disc. I left PC gaming because of crap like this. Now EPIC comes along and wants to sell us incomplete games because the money pie is'nt fat enough. Outrage is a understatement. PC gaming is lost and console gaming will soon follow the DRM train to suckville, and this is a form of DRM. No secure-rom but DRM none the less. I don't really blame EPIC that much, they have a right to protect thier IP. But damn, how greedy must you get.

lmao, that would be such a dick move.

The most evil side of me would love to see this happen for all games...

But this is pretty much bullshit, overall.

Well, he just started a shitstorm and possibly a domino effect, but I don't care either way. I understand where developers are coming from with this angle, business-wise. Anyone who says "f--- him," calls him stingy, or anything like that, really doesn't care to acknowledge the fact that the people providing these games for us have to eat too. I don't buy used games anyway. That being said, *bleep* Epic.

I agree that he just wants the companies and developers to benefit, but frankly this is a stupid idea. People without Internet will be left in the dark, and this will essentially kill a lot more sales than give money to the developers. What do Epic have to complain about anyway? Almost every single game they release is a hit, I say get over it.

Yea, I'm not necessarily agreeing with this idea, but I understand it. I don't think it would kill sales though, as you say, because like Capps stated, people who buy the retail copy will get the full game. Sales figures only count for new copies, don't they?

And about all Epic's games being hits, what do they make besides Gears and Unreal Tournament, with the latter not being nearly as popular as it once was?

Case and Point. Unreal Tournament is not the multiplayer king as it once appeared to be...

They make enough money on overpriced games. The small percentage of people who might re-sell it won't make much of a difference.
