With Gears of War 2 having been leaked early onto the internet in a torrent form three weeks prior to the game releasing, Microsoft have finally started a crackdown by banning accounts who managed to get their hands on the leaked version of the game. Though it's not just those that got it early that are being banned, but also those that have recently acquired (downloaded the game illegally) the game...

We’re getting reports that the Microsoft Ban Hammer has crashed down again, this time targeting Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty 5 pirates.

    Bit late there, aren't we Microsoft?

      Yup... gave them three full weeks to play the game, and then on the launch of the game... they stopped them playing... though better late than never. At least those people can't play any games online downloaded or original...

        Problem with what Microsoft are doing is that reports of people who bought the game on release (Midnight etc..) are getting banned aswell. >_>;

          Which I just don't understand. Fair enough the people who torrented the game gets punished, but not those who just bought the game, its ridiculous.

          They're not. MS can tell who bought the game and who pirated it.

          As mentioned by Bunnyburn they're not throwing the ban hammer on people who have baught the game ligitamately... they're basically banning those with a Modded XBOX360 and a copy of the Leaked game. (Though not 100% sure if it has to be the leaked game - may just be Modded XBOX360's again). The only reason people mod the XBOX360 is to download the games and play them. So if they're banning modded X360's they're doing a darn right good job.

          Am I the only one who thinks there's poor word choice in this article? As much as I hate somewhat agreeing with Final Blade, it was implied some innocent kid just bought Gears of War 2 and Microsoft's "Hitler is Awesome" division banned every single person who played the game so far. Specifically the whole 'also those that have recently acquired the game - THINK OF THE CHILDREN YOU NAZI MICROSOFT SCUM!' line.

          Instead, I read the article and find only people with modded Xbox 360's were banned.

          So? Did you try?

          That'd be completely my fault. I should have clearly stated that by "Acquired" I meant "Illegally Downloaded". I guess I use that word for illegally downloaded far too often to have realised that other people wont understand what I mean

          Hopefully that's more clearer now.
